its very different from your first album , i will be honest i miss the acoustic guitar /ukulele. There are also a few points where your voice seems to clash with the keyboards and i think that some of the songs would have been better suited to a guitar. This doesn't mean i dont like this album after buying and listening to it at 12 last night. i do quite like the album so far after listening to it 3 times it was just not what i expected.

i will listen more and probably fall in love with it ( just as i did with parrot stories , now my play count for dont look back is 505 and how we were being the least listened to still has 71 plays)

  • http://littleboxofsecrets7.blogspot.com Beth

I really liked it :) Favourite tracks- You and Me because of the simplicity of it, Georgia because of the energy, The World is Mine, Missing You and Dead and Gone because of the lyrics and Not Just Yet because it's a good song to end the album on. All in all, you should be very proud of it. :)

  • http://alexdaymusic.com Alex

I tried to brace people for the change as much as possible – by releasing 117% and The Time Of Your Life to showcase that dancey sound. But I never wanna sound the same, always keep pushing and changing, makes life exciting :)

  • Philvidler666

REALLY amazing Alex, i love it

  • Hannah

You're a brilliant lyricist. This album is amazing <3

  • http://hagiologynet.wordpress.com/ Chloe

I am editting what I'm going to call a “thing” about this right now, which if I like the finished product of, I will def being sending to you so you can see my fangirlishness…

I like it. I like that it's different from Parrot Stories. I like that it's got a couple of “just for fun” tracks on it. I love Missing You – I think it's my new Don't Look Back.

    <3

  • Philvidler666

granted, it is very different to Parrot Stories. but as ronseal said below, i'm sure i'll love it as much as Parrot Stories (it took a while for me to appreciate your voice for some reason, it was different to hearing the generic american accent, it's made me question my own voice, but its too late to change now) but TWIM needs more listening to by me to make it equal to your other stuff :)

  • Mellen

Time of Your Life, You and Me, Heart on my Sleeve, Georgia, Stay with me and Not Just Yet are fantastic and they make me glad I bought the CD.
I'm not gonna lie, the other 4 songs aren't as good as Parrot Stories tracks (every single track on it was fantastic – you set the standard very high for yourself) but are still pretty enjoyable.
Living on the Underground, though… is that about rape? It rally doesn't sound like your music. Maybe I'm just crazy, though.
    In general, you're quite fantastic.

  • Lex

Living on the Underground has been my favourite song since I first heard it because of the ENERGY and the FUN, but I do also really like You and Me, and Stay With Me. I think you should release just the track of you singing an octave up on Stay With Me :D I think I speak for everyone when I say we'd LOVE to hear that.

  • Jenni

This was definately hugely different to your first album, which I found was both good and bad. On your first album, I liked every song. On this album I really, really like some, but there are a few I dislike as well. Being perfectly honest, I'm not a huge fan of Georgia or Stay With Me, but on the other hand, Dead and Gone had me in tears, I love Time of Your Life, and The World Is Mine (I Don't Know Anything) is total genious. I think the album is definately a huge step up in all proportions and I realy hope it goes well for you :)

So all in all, I will definately be buying this one along with your first album next month when I get some money :P

  • Litte Liss

I am in the process of waiting for the cd to arrive through my door attempting to be patient but I know it shall be totally worth it. Although no ukulele appears in this album, it doesn't matter. I will love your music anyway I am sure of it. I am considering buying one either later today or tomorrow after having thought about it for quite some time. It seems that the fact I am a soon to be uni student has not stopped me spending far too much money not things that could be in no way classed as necessities.

  • @flyingmousetrap

Not what I was expecting, but after multiple midnight listenings I can safely say I love it – though maybe not as much as parrot stories just yet. I particularly liked Living on the Underground and The World is mine (I don't know anything)

Can't wait for my hard copy to arrive! ^^

  • http://twitter.com/xlaurax Laura

I have to be honest that I don't like it as much as Parrot Stories, but I didn't really like Parrot Stories when I first got it and now it's my favorite album, so I shall listen to this a few more times an I'm sure it will grow on me =)
    I'm still glad I preordered it though… I can't wait till it comes <3

  • http://alexdaymusic.com Alex

Ha – you really think every track on Parrot Stories was fantastic? That's very kind of you :) I completely disagree, of course. As for the new stuff; you said you didn't like Missing You, Dead And Gone or The World Is Mine as much, which is interesting, since those three are my favourites xD But I've seen a nice spectrum of opinion on people's favourite tracks, which is really nice. As for Living On The Underground – it's about (predictably) the London Underground.

  • http://alexdaymusic.com Alex

Haha. Um, thanks? :p No, I think that's good. All of my favourite albums left me unimpressed the first time I heard them, and I grew to love them. The ones that I've instantly been all “omg this is amazing” over are the ones that I get bored of just as quickly.

  • Pip

I've always loved and found a lot of relation with your lyrics, and this album is no exception. Like your last album, I can just sit and listen to it over and over for hours and still find something new in the music and be inspired every time. I love the use of interesting rhythms, techniques and instruments used on this album (a big round of applause to Tom for his magic touch as well!) I especially love the fun and pretty little sentimental songs like 'You and Me', but there's no shortage of rock, pop, and emotionally touching tracks on this album to keep the listener interested. Great job Alex, I can't wait to buy this as soon as I can, congratulations on all your hard work and success!

  • Danni Foley

It's definitely a completely different tone from your first album, but I like it a lot! I really like the opening lines to 'The World is Mine (I Don't Know Anything)': “My strings are broken and my heart is out of tune/ I wanted quiet but all I see is you”, very poetic, yet so many people can relate to it.
My favorite songs though have to be 'Georgia' and 'The Time of Your Life'. Great job, Alex!

  • karina.

i love it. it's even better than Parrot Stories. i love the constant use of xylophone and piano, it creates an awesome atmosphere.

  • eff

I don't like it, but that's probably a good sign since it's not unusual to dislike albums at first that later end up being favourites. I didn't like parrot stories at all in the beginning but I bought it a few months later and loved basically every song and had it on repeat for weeks, so I'm not worried:)

  • Djura

I love it! I think I love the world is mine the most.

  • itiselizabeth

Well I really liked it, I will probably video review it once I have my Harry Moon t-shirt and the physical cd. Living on the Underground has stayed true to what I expected it to be and I adore it. :)

  • Liamjackandrews

i love the world is mine, you and me, missing you, georgia, heart on my sleeve. the others are great but they are my favourites you're brilliant!

  • Andrea

That was kind of disapointing. Well your voice is great like always, but I really don't think you need all those electronic sounds and crap. And I have to ask – sometimes the notes didn't fit, you know the instruments and your singing. Was that on purpose? Some people does it so the song won't be so average, or what you call it. I'm told I have perfect pitch (Or what it's called) so it was kind of irritating to listen to.
I thought The World Is Mine was the best one.
Really sorry for poorly formulated english and stuff, I'm from Denmark.

  • laurelai

“The World is Mine” is lovely!

  • Anna

I loved Georgia when I first heard it on Alex's youtube channel, but I guess I'm in the minority with you that the new album version, imo, is just plain awful. It took a fun, catchy song and turned it into a death metal meets pop nightmare.

  • Emma

i really liked it :D it's different, but in a good way- if you did the same thing again and again it would get boring- some of the songs took me longer to fall in love with than others, but once i listened to them a couple times i realized that they're just as awesome as the ones i heard and automatically loved.

  • http://twitter.com/BBC_Fangirl Laura Blakemore

I haven't had the chance to order a physical copy of the album yet, but I used the player to listen to the album, and I LOVE IT.

However, I'm not sure if I like it more than Parrot Stories or not. Parrot Stories is still one of my all-time favourite albums. I really love it's style, and The World Is Mine (I Don't Know Anything) is SO MUCH DIFFERENT (in a good way, though). I liked the simpicity of your first album, it worked really well.

My favourite tracks on TWIM(IDKA) are probably “Dead and Gone”, “Not Just Yet” and “Missing You”. They all have a really nice tone to them, as well as the most amazing lyrics I have ever heard/read. You should be so proud of yourself, Alex. <3

I forsee myself listening to this album on repeat for a long time to come. :)

  • Cara

The World is Mine is fantastic, best song on the album. Anyway, I really liked this album at the first listen due to its variety, great work keep it up Alex :)

  • Rachel

Love it Alex :) Parrot Stories is still one of my favorite albums to date & I love the acoustic sound it has, but I admire you for always trying new things, changing things up a bit and moving forwards and I really love how professional this album sounds – I could easily imagine a lot of these songs on the radio. You've got some really strong lyrics on these songs (not that you didn't last time- it's always been your lyrics I love the most). Eg-
“They say time’s a healer but my watch can’t tell the time
The left hand’s stuck six months ago and I can’t find the right” <- love that. But all the songs are really strong lyrically & you've got some great tunes in there as well.

Struggling to pick favourites this early on since I can't 'decide' on a favourite, it just happens – the more I listen to the album the more I favour certain songs and play them the most… but I can see 'You & Me', 'Heart On My Sleeve' & 'The World Is Mine' being some of them. And of course 'Time Of Your Life' and 'Georgia' are already favourites lol :)

Glad I pre-ordered the physical CD, can't wait to get it!

  • Maryelly_9

only 3 word: I LOVE IT

  • theendofme

The World Is Mine and Georgia are my favorites. I love this album. :)

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/starrider121 Emily

my absolute favorite unpon first listening to the tracks is Heart on My Sleeve. I love the sound, totally awesome. I like the World is Mine as well, and most of the others. You've got a good mix here
I miss the ukulele/acoustic type songs as a few others below did, but I have Parrot Stories for that :D I'm really really glad I preordered the physical, can't wait to have it here!

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/starrider121 Emily

question: will you make the album artwork available for wallpaper under your photos like 117% and Parrot Stories? cause I've still got the 117% as my background which is really cool, but I love the new CD cover and title, The World is Mine (I don't know anything) isn't that just how all just out of high school young adults feel.

  • Lydia

The tracks are all good. It sounds very different from what one would expect to hear on an album….. all the synth-y stuff and whatnot. I liked every song all right, but I do have to say that The World is Mine (I Don't Know Anything) absolutely blew me away. That's just the most beautiful song and you did a really amazing job on it. In all honesty, I really enjoy your calmer music like Dead and Gone and Not Just Yet. You have the right kind of voice for those songs. ^_^ Thumbs up from Lydia! (which I suppose isn't any kind of great accomplishment or anything, but anyways) I need to get some money for this album. I'm rather broke.

  • mmm122

    I love you're different styles. They're so…. awesome.

  • snapes of wrath

Replacing the ChartJackers single on my Ipod? I do think so. It's just that awesome.

  • Jess

Alex, I just got back from Florida late last night, and listening to this while I unpacked cheered me up immensely, thanks! :D

I love the album, but I have to say I liked Parrot Stories a bit better – I liked the guitar and acoustic more than the electronic. I think I would have liked this more if some of the songs were acoustic (none in particular) and some were electronic so there would be a mixture. For many of the songs, I loved the lyrics but wasn't crazy about the tune. This was just a huge change from your old style.

My favorite songs have to be You And Me, The World Is Mine (LOVE the lyrics in this), Not Just Yet, and Georgia. I also liked Dead And Gone, it just made me too sad :) The only song I really don't like is Living On The Underground, although I'm not sure why.

    It is a fantastic album!

  • Blucobalto89

I don't know if it's good or bad but my cat loves this album! I was listening to it and suddenly my cat came into my room and sat next to the pc that was playing your songs and went away only after the last song. very strange.
I like the album but apparently my cat likes it more than me.
(sorry if I made mistakes but I'm from italy)

  • TheViewer

The first track surprised me with that instrument's sound (I don't know the name, sorry) floating from left to right. The end of the first track had a bit too much noise (this is only my opinion, though)
The third track reminded me of 117% with those electrical sounds. A very balanced music :)
The sixth track also surprised me, in a very positive way. The different style was refreshing.
The ninth track is also very enjoyable. Everything fits – the music, the singing, the drums…
The tenth track is my favourite! ;-D

  • http://twitter.com/meganable Megan

    I love it (:
the songs are amazing and the whole album just seems to fit together perfectly. my favourite song is heart on my sleeve, and i love how different this is from any of your other things :D

  • Curtis-reubens

…Is that a Doctor Who reference in the blog post?

Sorry, I probably should comment on the album, but this is all that's in my head right now…

  • kaaatee

HEY:) happy album release:) The world is mine was really different from your first album, wasn't really expecting it, i had to listen to it a few times(secretly in class lol) THEN i loved it. You and Me is a really sweet song and Dead and Gone is almost my favourite BUT The World Is Mine( I Don't Know Anything) is sooo worth naming the album after 'cause IT IS THE BEST. So what i'm trying to say is…there are some things in life that that are worth waking up early to download:) (got to 11:55 last night then went to bed:/ hah fail)

  • Jellyman600

Was that a stylophone in “Not Just Yet”? If so i'd love your music even more.

  • Harriet

This is qiute a big contrast to your other album, but I think it is a good difference! Georgia is just magic! Only you could write a song about a random bit of paper and pull it off so amazingly well! good job Alex I hope this album does as well as it should!
    xo

  • Lauren

Ah I love it! A lot better than Parrot Stories and that's really saying something! Favourite tracks (at the moment) – You and Me, Dead and Gone, Missing You & TWIM(IDKA) although I feel this might change. If I have to be critical – I think the album has quite too many slow songs, and should have been evened out maybe a bit.. However, the slow songs appear to be my favourites and I remember wishing Time of Your Life had a more slower background music, like a piano. Also, I prefer the original of Georgia but I still like this one. And also like I said, I don't really like the retro music in Time of Your Life and that the retro music is more suited to 117% complete, but I like the tune of the song.

  • Pwazank

didnt you and charlie say that you were going to twin your albums and have one of the others songs on you album is that only for the physical copy (which i am getting + the shirt YAY) just asking

my three favorite songs are “Georgia”, “Time of Your Life”, and “Heart On My Sleeve”
i also like how “You and Me” sounds like a pikman game

  • Carys

    New video tonight! Can't wait!

I was actually the first to hear it, at school this morning, in our music lesson. The school computers don't block your site, which is awesome! Unfortunately I couldn't comment on it at the time cos it wouldn't let me.. :(

But I heard most of the songs, and I think they're just sweet! Quite different from Parrot Stories, but I liked it muchly. :) Perhaps a little too much going on at once in some of the songs..? But I'm not an expert, just thought you'd appreciate some non-constructive critism…

Like comment if you agree that Doctor Who was EPIC!!!

  • Pwazank

but of course i still love all the other tracks but just teensy bit less

  • Carys

I didn't overly like Georgia on this album either. I loved the video, but what you did to it wasn't a good move, in my opinion. But if you like it, then that's awesome, and I completely respect your right to do whatever you want with your music.

  • itsabbiee

yaaaayy :) been waiting to buy it on itunes because I dont have a CD player
they are all amazing, I lovelovelove georgia, the world is mine and the time of your life <3<3<3

  • Amy

I heard “The world is mine” at the Bury Fringe gig, i fell in love with it then, but hearing in now, is just…wow…it actually gives me shivers…thats lame isnt it? oh well. best song on the album I think, i really like the contast from the dance-type track before it:) I also lovee Living on the Underground, I may have slightly been dancing around my kitchen listening to itXD The album is amazing, well done x

  • Sofaleaver

I love it. And you. I love the entirety of you. <3

  • Pwazank

is it just me or does the beginning and end of “Not Just Yet” sound like “Candy Canes” from the DFTBA Lullabies album for Henry Green

  • Skye

    I love your new album!!
It seems a bit more serious than Parrot Stories (in the topic manner), which I like, and it sounds absolutely wonderful! Did you write all of these songs? Because what I think is (are?) genius are the lyrics. My favorite song, by the way, is definitely (probably) Heart on my Sleeve….or Stay With Me. My least favorite is Georgia, BUT I really, really liked your original, so I probably just like it least because I liked the original so much. Does that make sense? I feel like I'm babbling…
So, point is, I thought your new album was brilliant and I can't wait to buy it :]

  • http://twitter.com/frozensight Tegan Thomas

I honestly like this album better than Parrot Stories. I don't really know why. I still love it, but I love the new…sound I guess? I don't know, but I love it! <3

  • shfargleyargle

in true nerimon style…heres a very long, honest review. :D

i admit, i practically screamed when i saw the twitter post about you uploading the player. i listened to each song consecutively, consisting alternating between smiling and *squee*-ing like the fangirl i am. the three song we had already heard, 'you and me' 'the time of your life' and 'georgia' were all fantastic, and so i was REALLY excited to hear the rest of it. i *love* 'heart on my sleeve', and the title song was very good, i loved the lyrics. i personally think that your song-writing _and_ your vocals have improved since Parrot Stories (which i still love). however, i believe that for every good album, there is one bad song. on Parrot Stories, it was 'What You Do'. it felt very… mariachi. on TWIM(IDKA) i think it is 'Not Just Yet'. as someone else mentioned, the beginning sounded like 'candy canes' from DFTBA lullabies… and i didn't mind that, i thought it could work since the lyrics were very sweet. then all of a sudden, something happened to the song, causing it to sound like a sing-along in a tourist bar in Hawaii…. 'not just yet' is my only complaint with this album. the rest, i *adore*. OH and whenever i hear 'stay with me' i find myself listening only to the 'high' parts of the harmonies thinking, 'HOW did he and tom not burst out laughing? alone, it probably sounded ridiculous! :D'

anyways, brilliant job alex. can't wait to get my album in the mail <3

  • spoongirl

New album, bit exciting sounds alot like 'new TARDIS, bit exciting' haha :)

Really good <3 Love Living on the Underground the most currently- just waiting for my download to be sent to me, since I ordered the physical copy :)

  • MeghanEllen.

I think that it is very different from Parrot Stories. That's what makes it good.I don't want to hear you sing the same basic songs on two albums. I was suprised initially, but I am going to buy it, because I like it and what you do. It's sure to rub off on me.

  • Kate

living on the underground and missing you are my favorites but i love the whole album :D

  • Rebecca

I really love this new album. It's a nice mix between Parrot Stories and 117%. “You and Me” is definitely my new favorite track.

I like that you can have so many styles, yet they all reflect you. You can see your personality in your music, and it's really great! It's good that your songs are so diverse, it makes things really interesting. :)

This may be my favorite album XD

  • MeghanEllen.

I do have a tiny complaint: On your actual music page on your website, when you say the title of the album, and then start into the track list for lyirc and chords, it makes a sad face. And I don't think that it should be a sad thing at all. (:

  • Sam

Hi Alex :) I haven't been able to buy any of your albums because I've only been a fan since the beginning of the year, so sorry about that :)

“Lets Run away, where they wont find us now, we'll hide far away and we'll be free, just you and me, just you and me” is my favourite line from the whole of the album, just because it's really cute :) and will definatley be written on the Maths book (most of the lyrics on my exercise book are from yours and Charlie's songs :D )

As I was writing this comment, I was rewinding the album on that player thingy and listening to each of the songs, and I think I might actually buy the album….though I should probably ask my mum first :) Have you ever thought of releasing your album in stores like HMV and Sainsburys and stuff? I think if you did that a lot more people would possibly see the album and think about buying it. Just a thought :) Thanks for another amazing album Alex :)

  • zehra

i love the song 'georgia the most.

  • http://letsponderthat.blogspot.com/ TT-Tardis time

“We'll be free just you and me” <3 Georgias is so good. I love the differences between the songs. I wish you fame but if you become famous don't go too main stream don't lose youur voice because this is so amazing. “Tell me what you want. I'll wear that mask for you”. I think your fantastic and the world is mine really spoke to me what more could you want! iTs sucha mix something for everyone. My friend who isn't big on techno loves heart on my sleeve. Yes I know this is a cheesey comment but I only speak the truth. “The earth is spinning but my feet are standing still”. Living on the underground is epic. I love the album will you stop being brilliant!

  • Caitlin

oh my, i cant even pick a favourite! Its very different from Parrot Stories, it sounds like its been better produced, even though Tom did both – i think it was worth the wait. Living on the Underground, reminds me of when i went on the underground to go to camden and oxfard and Abbey road and when i got it to Wembley Stadium to see Green Day (last saturday) and it brought back amazing memories, so i think i have a song i like a little better than the rest (yes, i know i just contradicted myself but nevermind) I cant wait til Charlie's CD comes out now cos im going to buy them both at the same time instead of paying double the postage :)

  • Volfos

Good songs. Any other day I would probably buy the CD, but I am none of them fit enough with my mood to sway me to buy it today. Sorry.

  • Billy

where the fuck is the post man
i got the 117% and this coming and its not here yet:(
    any day now

  • AHCDPW

I really like this album. You are amazingly talented :). I listened to it a few times and all the songs have been stuck in my head all day. I'm not sure what my favourite song is yet. Can't wait for my CD to come in the post :)

  • Billy

i thought i might just include i refuse to listen to it before i get the disc for some reason

  • Rozzy966

    i've bought it (:

  • http://twitter.com/Tennath Spring

It is a really different sound, but I think that's the purpose of creating music in general. What would be the point if you kept going in the same vein? Not only would it be boring to listen to, it would also be boring to play. I like that you keep pushing yourself and your creativity. The one track that is sticking out to me right now is “Stay With Me”. I like the vulnerability of it. “The rhymes aren’t perfect but neither are you”. That nearly killed me.

In Parrot Stories, I felt the tracks flowed really well, like walking down the street. You could kind of anticipate the feel of the entire album from listening to “A Thousand Hours” because the rest borrowed aspects, I felt. The World Is Mine though, it's more like a roller coaster. I liked not knowing what style is coming up next. It surprised me in good ways.

  • http://www.TheLabyrinthOfSuffering.blogspot.com Tia Belleisle

    This is so great! x
I definitely prefer it to Parrot Stories, which wasn't a style I was a fan of.
Keep up the great work Alex!

  • Skye

Just kidding, “The World is Mine” is my favorite :]

  • Curlyhairedgrrl

I had a strange obsession with Parrot Stories, and this has a completely different sound.
It's not exactly my favorite, but I'll just listen to it over and over until I love this one, too.

…Oh and “Lie down, Let me in”?
    That's what he said.
    Sorry, I'm immature.

  • Alice

It's different but I like it :) My favourites at this time are 'Living On The Underground' 'Heart On My Sleeve', 'Time of Your Life' and 'Stay With Me' though it'll change with my mood.
I particularly enjoyed 'Living On The Underground' and 'Heart On My Sleeve' because they're more up beat.
    But, yeah, sounds really great.

  • ronseal

Thankyou very much for replying , good to see that you read all of these comments.

After listening to the album a lot more it seems to have grown on me a lot. i love the world is mine and all of your lyrics. i think its come close to being in my favorite five albums ( one of which is already parrot stories :) )

  • http://candybag.tumblr.com Renee

I love it! :) I can't wait for my physical. I love all the songs I've listened to, but I definitely think that “The World is Mine (I Don't Know Anything)” is my favorite :) Wonderful job Alex :D

  • DanniLovesHearts

Okay Alex. I love it! My favourites at the minute are Heart On My Sleeve (“So tell me what you want and I will wear that mask for you” – I'm going to have that one in my head for some time <3), The World Is Mine (lovely!) and Georgia, just because I loved the video for that and it's pretty adorable :D Overall, a beautiful sound! Well done! I'm just waiting for the CD to come now, silly slow postal service!
    X <3 X

  • http://twitter.com/wiets wietske

I've pre-ordered the album, so I'm going to wait for that to arrive before listening to any of the songs. I just love that moment of putting the actual, physical CD in the player when you're not yet knowing what to expect. Dorky, I suppose =)
But I ordered it because I thought Time of your Life was absolutely awesome (and never having heard any of your other songs), so that's at least a bit of a review down!

    Congratulations on the release!

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/SAMuraiamatimelord Sam

I really loved The World is Mine. I am still listening to the rest of it but I have to leave for work. Also listened to Georgia, and I have to say, I VERY much prefer the sweet acoustic original version, the techno-y one is somewhat grating. I absolutely loved the original version of it though, I wish that could have made it on to the cd as a bonus track or something. I've already heard The Time of Your Life and loved it as well.

Once you have seen Georgia live, it turns into your favourite song.
Although, the only song I don't really enjoy on your new album is Not Just Yet, simply because I feel as if you didn't put as much energy into it. But that is the only one, the others are pretty fantastic :D

    Hi Alex.

Hmm, so far I have listened to Living On The Underground the most, (which would be around 20 times since you posted yesterday). This album seems varied that Parrot Stories was. I vacillated buying it because I still listen to songs off You Tube Tour Vol. 1 more than the songs off Parrot Stories. Also because I'd heard two already, and did not fall instantly in love with them.

The are my first thoughts – some may be unfair, and even a bit crass.

You and Me is sweet and reminds me of the innocence of youth.

Georgia (which though you posted earlier I also had not heard yet) Sorry. I've become a casual follower on most blogs.
It reminds of some late '70s Punk-ish songs. Which means to me, it's a bit empty/simple (not an insult) – some big hits have nothing but a keyboard and lyrics (was Technotronic big over there?).

Heart On My Sleeve- Really enjoyed this, has an almost '80s (american) pop feel. Bouncy and fun.

The World Is Mine ( I Don't Know Anything) – Please let this change from the- though lovely- deep piano durge it's starting out as…Oh good chorus picks up, nice harmonies.

Time of Your Life – Oh hey this sounds like, like, oh, Real Life type stuff. Lyrics are nice, but I got tired of that same chord. Thanks for changing it in the chorus.

Living On The Underground -What is that, industrial-ish – cool. THIS song took me somewhere. I now know it's supposed to be about a transportation, but it's one of those that can take multiple meanings.

Let's listen again ( which it did four more times, before realizing I should overdose on it when I can up my last.fm stats, and finish the album – so I continued)

Ow, what is that car door tone, is that the end of the song or the beginning of a new one – oh next one, OK. Hmm, O.K. if the whole song is going to be in that tone :/ – it sounds like – well – like the music they'd use if you were on a TV show and he's running from something. That tone was distracting for me.
(First couple of times Missing You started it sounded like a “door open” car ding, but today I didn't even notice it.)

Dead and Gone – Oh, pretty. I like the lounge singer sound this has.

Stay With Me- now this I already like, the little trilly thing with the notes going up is neat and not distracting ( sound silly, but it's like you're recharging)…and then the change for the next part – Oh hey a bridge – great beat.

Stay with me – Lullaby for the end track…OH, No – Reggae (I laughed aloud) that's awesome.
Don't we always pay to much to see movies? This is fun.

I still thoroughly enjoy your music Alex. I'm sure my initial thoughts on these songs will change the more I listen to them.

    Blake (formerly paisleypower30)

And evidently I forgot which twitter account I was in, oh well.

I think this is a great album. It's very different from Parrot Stories, but I was expecting it after hearing 117% Complete and The Time of Your Life. I'm still not sure if I like this better than your first album or not, since I've only listened to it a few times all the way through.

My favorite songs are Heart On My Sleeve, The World Is Mine, and Living On the Underground. I was going out just a few minutes after the album was up on your website, so I only had time to listen to one song right away. I picked The World Is Mine, and after just one listen it was stuck in my head all evening. That’s good because it shows that it had a memorable melody, which I always like. It also has the best lyrics out of all of the songs.

My least favorites are You And Me and Missing You. That said, they’ve both already started to grow on me after a few plays. Not Just Yet wasn’t one of my favorites either, but it fit perfectly as the final track on the album.

I preordered the CD, which I almost never do. I prefer to have heard all the songs before I buy them, but I loved everything I’ve heard from you in the past so I took a chance. I’m glad to say that I made a good choice!

(Also, sorry that this is so long. I’m not good at being succinct in what I write.)

Typing this as I listen for the first time all of the way through, here we go:

    1) You and Me – I _love_ the way you layer the different tracks, especially from 1:30 on. The drums that come in around 2:00 work brilliantly. Your lyrics don't need help, they're fine as they are. The tempo change + guitar at the end is a little shaky as far as being able to follow the melody, but I guess it ends the song alright. Kind of an abrupt ending.

    2) Georgia – I like the quiet intro, transitioning into the synth and drums. Again, lyrics don't need work, they're good. I think you could have done more with this song (in terms of making it longer), but it works adequately for its length.

    3) Heart On My Sleeve – Hmm, I'm not a big fan of the bass synth sounds in the background near the beginning, but you transition well into the chorus around :50. I just don't know if when you transition out of the chorus that the bass and slower tempo work for the song, or compliment your lyrics as well as something else could (I'm not saying your arrangement is bad, I'm just saying that if you would have used the chorus background throughout it might have turned out better). I do appreciate the fact that you're trying to make every song an individual, unique piece to the puzzle that makes this album. Really enjoyed the ending, like a lot.

    4) The World Is Mine (I Don't Know) – Oh, the piano is great at the start of this song. (I'm biased, because that's what I play), but seriously, I like how this song is playing out. You do something quite unique using your lyrics: you incorporate the song title as a theme that recurs throughout the entire song, rather than using it as one line of the song and using it as a “hook” to repeat it several times. Great work, there, I see that sort of style only with the best of indie artists! :) Overall, this is definitely my favorite song so far. It just flows, the lyrics tell a great story, and your melodies/accompaniment mesh very well. The ending left me with a “wow” sort of look on my face (people stared at me weird and stuff, too).

    5) The Time of Your Life – I like this as a single from this album, as it's 1) catchy, 2) the lyrics again tell a good story, 3) the music video was great, 4) the arrangement of the song work well for what (I think) you're trying to accomplish with this song. With all of your songs so far, I believe that your emotion behind your lyrics is what make them better than just lyrics alone, and you communicate well with your audience through this emotion (which can also be attributed to the melody that accompanies the lyrics in a particular part of a song).

    6) Living on the Underground – Intro with the train in the background is good. The overall feel of this song reminds me of older songs about traveling bands who would hop onto boxcars and onto trains and just travel–it works well considering you're probably talking about the London Underground. I REALLY LIKE the banjo/steel guitar/whatever the hell that is that ties together your lyrics throughout the song. Good song.

    7) Missing You – The buildup in the beginning of the song is okay, but once we got to the glockenspiel and stuff, I think I knew what you were trying to do there, it works in retrospect. The hints of piano, once again, are my favorite part of this song, I think. This song has the most repetition in its lyrics, which I can understand especially since it's about missing someone, but, I think it takes away from the song a bit. Honestly, this song didn't click well with me until the end.

    8) Dead and Gone – Oh, look, piano- again, I think piano always can work well when you use it correctly, and you did in the beginning of this song. As a side note, when you put the “lo-fi” or crackly effect on your voice and are using piano in the background, I think that works extremely well. It makes it sound like an Elton John song (compliment!) The background singers that come in around 1:35ish are GREAT. I like this song a lot, especially with the lyrics, I haven't heard the last two songs yet, but this would have been a FANTASTIC song to end the album (in my opinion), because it sort of offsets the up-beatness of The Time of Your Life, etc. Overall, my 2nd favorite song (a close 2nd) with TWIM.

    9) Stay With Me – Reminds me of the surfing music from Pokemon for some reason (this definitely isn't a bad thing xD) I normally am good at looking at details, and one detail that makes this song good is the claves sound that accents the drums and running synth throughout the song. You layer/arrange your tracks well (with some help from Tom, I suppose? Either way, good job on that.)

    10) Not Just Yet – Probably have the best lyrics from your album. Your transition into an island-like themed synth / tom-drum combination may not work with best with your lyrics, however. Clapping is always good!

Favorite lines (from this song as well as the whole album):

“I hope you won’t forget the time we had / When we laughed our way through movies we had paid too much to see / All the photographs that we forgot to take / And the train tickets you told me we should never throw away”

Also, “And the way you fit a lifetime into a single day.” Great.

Overall: I realize that many people don't like your transition from Parrot Stories to TWIM, but, 1) You do both styles really, really well, and 2) You sound like you're having fun, and you keep doing what you like doing, because in the end you can either make the music you love and keep a fanbase who loves your creativity and ability to adapt, or you can make music that more people will like (and you may not). Thus, I say keep doing what you're doing, because it's working brilliantly.

    Great album, Alex.

  • Ava

Ahh. I just bought it on iTunes. I was on my iTouch and was commenting through there. Then something happened and my long comment was destroyed so im trying again.
You And Me: Simple and sweet. The begining is a little rough but it gets better towards the middle. Also, it kinda reminds me of a carnival at the begining with the background music. it makes it sound happier which is lovely. I think it the time between You and Me and Georgia is too short and it clashes. But that doesnt effect the sound.

Georgia: I have been watching you for a while and remeber the Georgia video very well. I loved it, thought it was adorable and I feel the same way about the song. Also, i love the spin you put on it. Very…rock?

Heart on My Sleeve: I think it hints at some sexual content but thats acceptable and it shows you maturing and growing as an artist and a person. The message is (in the way I interpreted it) I will be who you want me to be as long as your happy. Very sweet (:

The World is mine (I dont know anything): I think its very cute and its kinda like admitting you're wrong. You have the bold, flashy “THE WORLD IS MINE!” but then dies down. Its like oh wait…”i dont know anything”

Time of your Life: I fell in love with this song since I saw the music video. I love it (: Its sweet and laid back.

Living on the Underground: I like the hustle and bustle sound at the begining. The way you describe the 'underground' (im american and call it a subway) makes it seem so conjested and stuffy and uncomfortable (which it is) but it kinda rubs off on the song. Not my favorite..

Missing You: Its very inocent and just simple. I like that. its a happy medium between the rest of the album

Dead and Gone: It rubbs of on me as kinda a cry for help. Like “take me home, take my hand” it makes you seem innocent. I like the simplicity. (i need to get new adjectives not just sweet, simple and innocent). Its quiet and relaxing.

Stay With Me: Its bubbly and happy and techno-ish. It kinda reminds me of Owl City sounding, which is a good thing. Again, sweet, quiet, inocent.

Not Just Yet: Sounds like a lullabye in the begining. Its “twinkly” if ya know what I mean. Like starry? Hard to describe. But then it gets into a kinda tropical sound? maybe thats just me…

All in all, i love the Album. Another great Job by Alex Day (: I see people comparing it to Parrot Stories which doesnt seem fair. They are very different. Different projects. I think you need those comments saying “OMG ALEX I LOVE IT AHHH!” and then the ones like this telling you what you need to work on. I realize this is long, oh well. Love you. Love what you do. Keep goin!

  • Ava

woah. this looks like an article. SORRY!

  • Katie

i love it already <3 i think that accoustic versions of georgia and not just yet would be good as singles or make good videos :)
    amazing album though <3

I love the piano (keyboard?) in Dead and Gone. I don't want to sound cheesy or anything, but it really is beautiful. Ace album just like Parrot Stories, hopefully you will make another album? :)

  • Lindsay Milne

Love the piano (keyboard?) in Dead and Gone. I really don't want to sound cheesy but it really is beautiful. This is an ace album, just like Parrot Stories and hopefully there will be another album soon :)

  • Sam

I just listened to “Dead And Gone”….and it made me cry because it was so beautiful. I just love how simple the song is, and how amazing the lyrics are. If I ever come across a person who doesn't like that song, I think I might just scream :)

I actually used the lyrics “So for tonight, let's sing about the ones we left behind, And i'll run with you until we're dead and gone” in a powerpoint I have to do for school…..i'm PROMOTING THE ALBUM!!!! Hopefully all my mates in my chemistry class will wonder where the lyrics came from and Google it, coming across your album and be shocked at how awesome it is :) I'm putting a note at the end saying “And thanks to Alex Day, the musician who wrote all the beautiful song lyrics featured in this presentation” :) Hope you don't mind :)

  • Kate

    heart on my sleeve :D

  • Sarah

The rhymes aren't perfect, but neither are you
    wonderful album <3

  • Sarahmtheunicorn

sorry, i just realized that sounded mean, i meant it as in i love those lyrics from Stay With Me. :)

  • Charlottebryceson

I really love Not Just Yet, it reminds me of Candy Canes, which always gets the little boy I look after to sleep, so I love it! I could listen to it every day, even when it livens up in the middle, you keep it cool and easy to listen to! Good work on the album. At the moment I still prefer Parrot Stories, but I think if I give this album a couple more listen throughs it could definitely grow on me. I really hope it does well…don't ever give up on your art Alex!

  • http://www.youtube.com/MrBankDog Jessie

I was trying not to listen to this until it arrived, but evidently, that's not happening.
So far I've only listened to a few, but I'll give you my review of those, not in any particular order.

The Time of Your Life – I really liked that one, I thought it was cute and that the music video was excellent. The sound was definitely really robotic. At first it sounded really artificial to me (the beginning sounds like video game sound effects, which while I enjoy, I'm not used to hearing in music), but then it became a sweet and sappy love song that I truly enjoy listening to.

Living on the Underground – I'm going to admit, I'm probably a bit biased because I'm a dance-y, musical theatre person, but I really like this. I'm choreographing a dance to it in my head because I want to show it to my dance teacher at the beginning of the school year to see if we can put it into our dance show. It has a nice feel of movement and actually puts a picture in my head of a subway. This probably sounds weird because I picture things in sets, but I picture this song on kind of a dark grey background with ladders (no idea why) and water dropping from the ceiling in one spot, like a slightly deteriorated subway station that's still in heavy use. I definitely love this song.

Georgia – I saw the original video for this, and I was just expecting an acoustic recording of it, so this was definitely a shock but in a good way. When I first heard this on the DFTBA website, the deal was sealed for me to pre-order your album. You didn't change the lyrics as far as I could tell, and I really like that. The instrumentals combined beautifully with your voice. I liked how it was acapella in the beginning and then kind of exploded with sound and feeling. At first it just sounded lonely, and then the instruments made it sound passionate.

You and Me – You and Me has a kind of circus feel to it, like you were left to wander around a fair alone, but then you find who you were looking for and are persuading them to join you. Finally, you finally have them on your side of the argument. It's cute and somewhat new. I don't know if that's what was intended, but it's what I'm feeling right now. However, it's also only my second or third time hearing the song.

All in all, what I've heard so far is new, but I like it. Some of the heavy instrumental parts confused my head but I'm getting used to it and I like it. Good job :D

  • Laura

    Hello,

There you are like a proud dad putting your baby out into the world telling people to coment hounestly, so far your getting a lot of love back so that is nice.

Lyrically you are awesome, the album as a whole flows really well. Heart on my sleeve sounds a bit like it's having an identity crisis but that feels appropriate to the song. My favourite track is The world is mine, it's beautiful.
Georgia stands out as a bit impersonal among the rest of the songs, there i've said it sorry.

On the whole it's brilliantly upbeat yet full of heartfelt love songs. Well done it made me smile and my flatmate when she caught me singing along in a truly awefull london accent.

  • http://twitter.com/misscharliable charli evans

the world is mine (i dont know anything) is actually a very touching song, especially at the end. i think you have a good mix of genres and melodys on this album and i really like it. also heart on my sleeve and its reasonably subtle sexual inuendos made me smile :)
i don't love missing you, stay with me or living on the underground as much but i think thats because they are the ones with the most instrumental that covers up your voice and i really loved the sound of your voice just really raw without too much of a backing track. still a brilliant album and much to be proud of! looking forward to seeing the video as well xx

  • Sam_marsh_056

My absolute favourite song off the album is “The World Is Mine” the vocals and piano are totally perfect, and the lyrics are really easy to relate too. I also bought the album at like 12 last night, and have subsequently been listening to it since, I love the change of style, every track is experimental and nothing like what I was expecting! Well done Alex, you've totally created a cracking album! xx

  • Ciarpin

Ok, I think Tom Milsom needs a little mention here. You, Alex, wrote those brilliant lyrics down onto paper, but he brought them to life with his amazing producer skillz. Good producing, Tom! (And it's an amazing album Alex xD)

  • Lauren

Not to be impatient, but when will I get my free download.. I've been waiting all day for it. :/ Anyone else got theirs?

  • Deano

Alex? Will you be putting this on your bandcamp page? Cause I can't get to this blog from school and really want to listen to it over and over while I wait for my physical CD to come?

    Thanks :)

    Dean

  • Sam Burton

Imma wait for the CD to arrive!! XD

  • ChaceLynch

Gimmicky, underdeveloped, and just boring.Sorry mate, but it sounds like you phoned this one in.

  • camewel

Sorry, but is “You and Me” meant to end so abruptly? Seems a little…
    ENDNEXTNOW!
Surprised me a bit, and I don't really like it.
The “Georgia” remix was pretty cool, and I still love “The Time of Your Life”, just seems like a bad start to the album. I'll get back to you with my thoughts on the rest of the album once I've had time to really listen to them, instead of use them as the backing track to my life (your Sons of Admirals song, “Here Comes My Baby”, is a great song for making a sandwich to).

  • Volfos

Okay, these songs are total growers. At some point, I am going to buy this. I don't doubt that now.

  • Monica

I love how Georgia all started with a bit of paper you found and ended up turning into a pretty good song. The albums still growing on me, but then that happened with Parrot Stories too, and that's one of my favourite albums ever now :).
Love the line “my strings are broken and my heart is out of tune” by the way.

  • Monica

Aaaaand, forgot to add on… Did you get “my strings are broken” from Paper Towns? That's just what my mind jumped to when I first heard it.

  • Kelly

The first time I heard The World Is Mine, I cried. It's so beautiful.

  • Anne-Marie :)

I've bought all of your albums so far, and i must say, i really really love your music, i love that you always do something new and it sounds amazing everytime :) I also love ur vids on youtube, i wanted to send u danish playing cards ever since i watched ur vid about ur collection lol xD pls keep up doing ur music, its amazing! im gonna buy every since albums- promise x

  • http://twitter.com/Shayshie Rachel Foxton

    I did exactly the same.

  • http://twitter.com/Shayshie Rachel Foxton

Wow is all i can say tbh. I think you've done such a good job with this album and I love how some of it's completely different to everything you've done so far. I definately think that The World Is Mine has got to be my favourite 'cause it's just so beautiful. I've played it on repeat so many times it's already overtaken the whole of Parrot Stories! I think I'm going to have to listen to the whole album a few more times though, before I love it more than Parrot Stories, 'cause I thought every song on there was fantastic. But TWIM is undoubtably sure to become my favourite very very soon. I just love listening to you sing. Your the perfect stress relief. :) x

  • Zoe Amandla

I love Dead and Gone and Missing You : ) I've listened to them heaps and think they are great : ) I'm quite impressed! The World is Mine is also really nice : ) congrats! I'm so glad you've finally put them up.
I'm quite new to your site (a friend sent me a link to your Twilight readings and i liked them so much i looked you up) and reading the other comments makes me want to listen to your other albums – I wasn't a huge fan of the 117% Complete stuff but I'm sure you can tell my tastes from the songs I've listted that i do like :p
    Anyway thumbs up!
ps: I'm from the Land of Oz (aka Australia) just lettin you know your stuff has even reached downunder :D

  • Carly Richter

I noted a lot of people commenting about how they didn't really like the techno-type sounds and missed the uke/guitar. I, personally, kind of like the sound of this album. Parrot Stories remains one of my favorite albums, but listening to this just evokes a lot of emotion that I didn't get out of Parrot Stories. It's obvious you worked extremely hard on this album.

Here are my first impressions/thoughts of the music:

You and Me — I really loved the smoothness of this song. It just blends together. Peace and harmony. Made me really relaxed and happy. This song makes me remember some really good times I've had, and that's awesome. The tempo change towards the end makes me curious as to what the music video would look like. The abrupt ending contrasted the feeling of smoothness of the song. kind of left me hanging. but overall really good quality

Georgia — Ahh, I've heard this one before. I like how the song picks up right away and kind of pumps you up. The refrain was simple, but not bad. This song didn't evoke as much emotion for me and You and Me did but it really brought back some of the sounds from 117%

Heart On My Sleeve — I'm kind of enjoying the 90's type bass in the background. And the contrast with the chorus! excellent. Love love love the chorus! And then switching back to the other sound for the verse. In this song you sound like this two-faced person who is that shadey, mysterious type but also the loving, happy, open type. This is an excellent song, could put this on repeat and listen to it for a long, long time

The World is Mine (I Don't Know Anything) — really evoked a sad emotion. The repeated use of the line “I don't know anything” is really effective. “The earth is spinning but my feet are standing still.” To me, lyrics mean a lot. This song brings a lot to the table. It has the gentle piano, the quality lyrics, the perfect type of vocals for the song, oh and the gentle, subtle use of that electronic sound in parts of the song was a great way to sneak some of the other sounds on the album into this song. I found that aspect of the song genius. The ending really wrapped it up too with that last little piano part.

The Time of Your Life — I've already listened to this song a lot and seen the video. So these aren't really my first thoughts. I know people were bitching about how your voice was getting drowned out in the begginning by the rest of the song, but I think that's just to show how you're timid in the initial state of being in the beginning of the song. I like how you can get completely different stories out of this song. If you watch the music video you get a completely different view of the song from if you listen to it without the video. The song really creates a story

Living on the Underground — Hmm… I like the real-life feel in the beginning. This song is completely different from all the previous songs. I like this song, but it's not one of those you can just listen to over and over. It's the kind where you listen to it and then put it away for a while before listening to it again. Maybe it's the busy parts of the song that make me feel this way. This is a really unique piece of work, though.

Missing You — I like the simple beginnning; it draws you in. You're really allowed to hear the lyrics and get the feel of the song. The piano was a nice touch. I like the bells about 2 minutes in. Really, really nice, easy to listen to.

Dead and Gone — When I saw the title, I thought you were going to do a T.I. remake (just kidding). The gentle piano with the vocals again! It's great. I like how you approach this type of music. It's unique to you and really demonstrates your talents as a musician. “We'll always find each other in the end” I like that line. This song really grows on you. It has similar aspects to it as The World is Mine, but it's so different at the same time. This reminds me of the type of song you can just put on and stare at the ceiling while you listen to it because it takes you places. I love the subtle ending

Stay With Me — “If there's one thing to take away, it's that I love you.” The lyrics really jump out at me in this song. It might be that way because the vocals really stand out. The lyrics and vocals are the best part of this song. Nothing can distract me from them. This is the type of song I would listen to with my headphones on while I walk somewhere. I can get lost in the places this song takes me.

Not Just Yet — The simplicity in the beginning of the song is amazing “Tomorrow's still a day away and it will always stay that way.” That really speaks to me. I feel like one of your greatest strengths as a musician is writing quality lyrics. I can always count on you to write something that will impress me with the lyrics. The change in the mood of the song is fantastic. The song just turned into something I can listen to when I fall asleep to something I can listen to when I'm in the car with the windows down in the summer. “The way you fit a lifetime into every single day” Great, great work with the lyrics on this one, Alex! It really wraps the album up nicely. Doesn't leave me hanging.

Overall, I like it. I can already tell the album is growing on me. Keep making the music you enjoy producing because the artistic views you bring to the table are great. I'm curious as to what music you'll pop out next!

  • Zoe Amandla

pps: i really loved the piano in Dead and Gone – have you considered releasing it? I play piano and would def be interested in buying/getting the sheet music : )

  • Larz

It's a lot different from Parrot Stories, but I do like it a lot. My favorites are 'The World Is Mine (I Don't Know Anything)' and 'Living On The Underground.'
I'm a sucker for all your wordplay in the title track, and the whole feel of 'Living On The Underground' is just so different from the rest of the album that I immediately fell in love with it.
All in all, it's rather nice to see you change with each album, I feel like i'm watching you evolve.
    (What? Nerimon is evolving!)

  • Larz

Oh, and I do like Georgia, just because of the silly story behind it. ;)

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/starrider121 Emily

Addition: While I miss a few of the acousitics, I really enjoy the piano! and I also enjoy that your growing and trying new things, it's great, keep doing what your doing!

  • Ldlizard

i absolutely love you and me and the world is mind. this album has a very different feel. im not quite sure im loving it yet. some of the tracks sound sort of… almost innocent and others are in your face and loud. i'm not sure the album flows together well. not sure ill buy it right now.. but after listening to more and more i think its exactly like your personality and how you are in your vids. i have a love/hate relationship with your new style right now.

plus i saw the doctor who episode blink today so you have that to compete with for a wow out of me. and that was amazing.

I genuinely enjoy the songs that I have heard thus far and I think that “I don't know anything” is my favorite at this point. Although the lyrics sometimes dip into the realm of cliche', you sing them with so much sincerity and it makes the meaning important again, if that makes any sense. Your songs seem so personal sometimes that it feels a little bit like I'm getting a peak at someone's journal. I continue to be impressed with the talent and ingenuity of you and your friends/fellow musicians.

    LINES:
“we say we're being truthful but i can't get near you when i do”
“i never met you but i think i'm in love”
“they say time's a healer but my watch can't tell the time”
“shake a little longer and you'll lose your mind”
“how did you get inside only to say goodbye”
“there's so much time but not enough for you and me to know…”
“if there's one thing to take away, is that i love you”
“all the memories that we forgot to make”

I find a part of my personal story in each and every one of those specific lines. Great thing!

Basically. This album is incredible. Your first one was amazing too! This one was a little quieter than the other one, which is good I like it, but I do like the other one too. I mean there isn't really anything in me saying “This one is better” or that the other one was better. I like them equally. They each have a different sound witch is good. You want to keep us on our toes! I really like The World Is Mine and I also really like Living On The Underground. And I can't get enough of Georgia, just because I loved that song when the video came out, i thought it was hilarious! And back then you thought “what am I doing” and now that is clear. You are making lovely music for us lovely people! It's kind of hard not to like The Time Of Your Life because that song is great and so is the music video! Not Just Yet is fantastic too! And I kept thinking what a good ending to the album it is! And it would be a great closing song for a show!! Perhaps a show in Minneapolis, Minnesota… or not… whatever works… Over all.. You have done it again Alex. You have made incredible music and won us over! Congratulations on a new lovely album! Keep it up!

  • Hyssa99

Right now I like only The world is mine. This album is really different. But with Parrot Stories was something like that too.And now I adore that album so we'll see:)
    Anyway congratulations!You're doing great!

  • Kiko

It is quite different from Parrot Stories and 117% Complete, and I do miss the sound of some of the older songs, but I also really love the new sound too. Especially in The World Is Mine, I love your voice with the piano, and that video you posted with Tom is pretty awesome too. Great job, all the songs are awesome, I'll definitely buy the album once I have the money for it. :P Even without buying it, I've already listened to the whole album four or five times on this site (thank you thank you thank you for that), and I'm starting to like each song more and more as I listen to them. Please don't stop making music, it's awesome. :D

  • Georgia

I came in to school this morning prepared for a really awful morning of revising for an RE exam, but then I thought “Why don't I listen to a bit of Alex to make it more bearable?”. So after waiting for years for the schools internet to load I finally managed to get on to your site a discovered that your new m was released! For the past hour I've been listening to it over and over with the biggest smile on my face.
Thank you for making my morning so much better. xx

  • Emma

    i love love love it!
I have to buy get around to buying the physical CD soon, but i wanted to listen to it first :)

    Good work Alex, its amazing!

  • Sophie

After watching the video for The Time of Your Life a couple of weeks ago my expectations for this album were high but you managed to fill them. I can't decide whether I like it more than Parrot Stories or not, I guess that decision will come with time, but I do love it.

I love the new sound you've got going on and the feel of this album generally, it's very different to Parrot Stories, but that doesn't mean it'sbad.

My favourite songs at the moment are Heart on my Sleeve, The World is Mine (I Don't Know Anything), Living on the Underground, Dead and Gone and Not Just Yet. These are liable to change though as I listen to the album more and more.

    Great work!

  • Sarahxo

I'm a huge fan of a song with just simple piano and a beautiful voice. With this in mind, “The World Is Mine” is the perfect song, in my mind. It's full of gorgeous lyrics that really make the listeners think. Alex, you're so talented. Keep it up, because you're really going somewhere. I'll definitely be buying this song on iTunes right after I post this comment.
Favorite line of the song: The earth is spinning, but my feet are standing still.
    Lots of love. (:

  • Indie-Anna:)

You rock mr alex! I like your alternative sound :) and was infact suprised by the quality of your music! My favourite track is Georgia.. just because of its random lolness :) Good luck for the futureee fellow essex..person :D Do you have anything more planned? :))

  • Indie-Anna

wait that sounded really patronising ''I was suprised by the quality of your music''.. i just meant .. cos i heard ur lil acousticy georgia and then saw it was on your album so i was like ok i'll check it out and then all the songs were proper good songs! wahey :D

  • Jen

i love the new dance-y sound and will buy it as soon as i stop typing this. it is fantasticly amazing and i will be listening to it constantly for the rest of my life

  • http://www.facebook.com/olgabreslavets Olga

You And Me reeeally makes me think of Animal Crossing.
    and, like, fireflies.

But, as a whole, I can honestly say I like this more than Parrot Stories.
    It's a bit less, amateurish.

  • ellie mae

So I'm going on vacation to Boston soon and I'm trying to put a playlist of songs related to my vacation. Since We're taking the train there, “Living on the Underground” is perfect. The whole CD is different…but in this weird way where I wanna keep on listening to it. :) My favorites are “The World is Mine,” “Georgia,” “Heart On My Sleeve,” “The time of your Life.” and “Not Just Yet.”

Thanks for making good music Alex, a lot of time that's hard to find.

  • Jessica

I thought Living on the Underground was about gang rape too, the lyrics kind of shocked me, I didn't think it was Alex's style to go for double entendre's. Even if it was unintentional, I can see it in there.

  • Jesus

You know, I'd come back to hear you perform live.
    Regards from Heaven x
    - J

  • Rachel

I absolutely love this album. It's clear that you've grown as a musician and a person since Parrot Stories came out. I like this album better than Parrot Stories, which is saying a lot as I absolutely enjoyed Parrot Stories.
My favorite track so far is the title track, but there is something to love about every song. I can't really articulate anything else except “wow”. Thank you for sharing your music! :)

  • Alex

Well I think this album is pretty amazing, Alex!
You're quite talented, and I reckon I'm going to love this album just as much as I love Parrot Stories.
By the way, which are the songs you had to play the drums for? I'd like to know : )
    Cheers
    Alex, from Brazil =]

  • JimmyLost

I absolutely love Living on the Underground I think I listened to it about five times in a row last night and I'm listening to it now as I type :).

  • Rachel (:

Heart on my sleeve and The Wold is Mine, serious love for these two songs :D but generally the whole album is pretty damn good.. :)))

  • Abby

I feel like I can literally hear you smiling at some points. Its absolutely lovely, thank you for this.

  • Alison

I really do love your new album but it is a bit of a shock to the system. I've not listened to it that much yet but my favourite tracks at the moment are The Time of Your Life and Dead and Gone. I think the fact that's it's a completely different sound from Parrot Stories makes it easier to fall in love with them both rather than deciding one is better than the other. No More will always be special to me but I think this new style suits you better as a person.

  • Johanne_dk

'You And Me', 'Georgia', 'The World Is Mine (I Don’t Know Anything)' and 'Living On The Underground' are my favorites :D.. especially 'Living On The Underground'.. and I just took a long pause from writing to find out what makes it brilliant, but I can't (sorry), it just is.. as a matter of fact..! but I like every song :)
I like how “heart on my sleeve” has a gangster/hip hop kinda sound to it, with the low tempo, in the verses, and then goes all jumpy in the chorus :P
keep up the great work, and hopefully I'll see you in concert sometime :)
    Love Johanne, Denmark

  • RobsonUtting

    Wow.
After listening to this album, I'd guess, about 10-15 times over the last two nights, I thought it'd be best the review each song individually.

You and Me – I like how at the start some of the instrumentation reminds me of birds chirping – a good way to start the album. Lyrics are good, sounds very innocent and lovely ^.^. Also, the “ba-da, ba-da, ba-da” parts after the choruses are a nice touch.

Georgia – Probably the weakest track in the album for me. Not to say that its a bad song, but its nothing special. The “no, no, no” parts sounded too subdued and I think they would have been better if they were louder, and stood out more from the instrumentation. Love the drumming though, Tom did a good job there :).

Heart On My Sleeve – One of the best tracks on the album, if only for the chorus. The chorus is incredibly catchy, aside from that, the verses aren't great (they are good, mind), but the chorus is probably the best part of the entire album for me.

The World Is Mine (I Don't Know Anything) – Again, brilliant, the piano in the first verse is awesome, and I love how it is lyrically, with “I don't know anything” being the third line in every verse. Reminds me a bit of Don't Look Back, but with piano and not guitar. Your voice is probably best suited to this song, I'd say.

Time Of Your Life – Already listened to it way too much after you released it on your YouTube channel, I love it. The hook is very good, and I like how your voice gets, not louder, but, less soft, as the song goes on, as if you're “coming out of your shell”, almost. The “now I know, now I know” backing is a little silly, and I'm not too keen on it, but the “I'm sorry I told you I loved you” verse makes up for it, I think.

Living On The Underground – Good song, bit dark-sounding, although that may just be because I and a few other people on here assumed it was about gang rape. I like the piece of audio before the song starts though, a nice touch – its the little things, like that, that make a good album a great album.

Missing You – A little too slow, I think. Lyrically, its great, but I don't think it really picks up enough for me, so I'm not massively keen on it. I do like the subtle instrumentation though.

Dead & Gone – Lyrically the best song on the album, and I love the piano parts. The chorus can only really be described as beautiful, and the verses are great too. Weirdly, it makes me think of the movie “Up”, for some reason. It sounds a little like it would fit into the part in which there is the montage of the couple getting older and the wife eventually dying… Its random I know, but it just comes into my mind whenever I listen to this.

Stay With Me – A decent song, but its a little forgettable. Its not particularly bad for any reason, there's just nothing that would make me want to listen to it above the other tracks.

Not Just Yet – A bit of a stray away from anything else, I love the “but not just yet” at the end of every line – similar to The World Is Mine… Then the reggae comes in, it sounds ridiculous at first, but its really good, and its probably that which puts it above songs like “Stay With Me” because it has stand-out parts in the song, the reggae, and the clapping in the background, etc. Saying that though, my favourite part of the song is when all of the instruments are stripped down until just your voice is left, a lovely song to end the album on.

    As a whole…
I think this is a good album, and I like how you're going into new genres and trying new things, however, I think this would be better if there were some more guitar-based tracks mixed in. It may not sound right, but I think it could work, if the tracks were ordered well. I would say its on par with Parrot Stories, the thing with both albums is, there are too many of what I think aren't great tracks. “What You Do” and “Sicily” on the first album (weird how they were the oldest tracks on it as well, if I remember correctly…), and on this, “Georgia”, “Missing You” and “Stay With Me”. If, lets say, you took those two off this album, and replaced them with songs of the quality of “Don't Look Back”, “No More”, or “Hearts”, then this would be a great album, rather than a good one – this, I think, is a good album, with some great tracks, and some average ones that let the album down a bit. Hopefully after 100-150 listens I'll grow to like these songs a bit better, but right now, I think the ones I singled out aren't really very good… I have to say though, as much as I'm complaining and criticising, I have to say, songs such as “You and Me”, “Heart On My Sleeve”, “The World Is Mine”, etc, are brilliant, just some songs either needed to be better-made or left off the album altogether and replaced with better tracks. Maybe, for the next album, you should take a little more time to make it, so you can get a good 12-14 great tracks, and less average ones, rather than 6-7 great tracks and 3-4 average ones, like are on this album.

I have to say, maybe you disagree with my opinion, and think the songs I criticised are some of the best on the album – Everyone's opinion is different, so y'know. (Runs out of vocabulary)

If you read all the way through this, then thanks ^.^
    Robson.

  • Roman

I would say that it is very different to your first album. But that's what I like about it, it's different, it's got a dancing feel and honstly I really like it. Although it is different it works, so good job, and I'll buy it from Itunes as soon as I get money.

  • Roman

I also really love the piano in The World is Mine, and Dead and Gone, but that's cause I love the sound, :)

  • Stargatekitten

I would love to have sheet music too because I also play piano and having just the key is not enough for me to learn the music. I would defininitely pay 10-15 dollars for the sheet music. (I'm from America so I have no idea how much sheet music is in England though.)

  • God

    JESUS!!

I'm sorry, Alex. There he goes again: making promises he can't keep.
    Good album though, well done.

  • Stargatekitten

Now that I have listened through this album 21 times according to iTunes (I was reading the first 300 pages of the 5th Harry Potter) I feel that I can give you an opinion that isn't just a first impression (I didn't really want to give you my first impression anyways because I didn't like it at first xD) So anyways enough rambling… My favorite tracks are Heart on my Sleeve and The World is Mine, and my favorite line is definitely “And the way you fit a lifetine into every single single day so let's have one more day” That is brilliant. Also I know someone else already said this but, doesn't “Not just yet” sound a bit like “Candy Canes”? Or at least the very end?

  • Stargatekitten

The line should be “And the way you fit a lifetime into every single day so let's have one more day” I just completely failed at typing it and now it won't let me edit…

  • Emmi14

First off, let's just say I really like your music, and I have a high standard for the music I listen to. (Since I brush off most artists that became big in the last 20 years like dust on my shoulder) So far I haven't bought all of The World Is Mine off iTunes, but I plan on it. The last one I downloaded was “The World Is Mine (I Don't Know Anything)” and the lyrics are fantastic, just complete emotion put into it, and thats what I think makes a good song. So congrats for another amazing and impressive album Alex, I can't wait to download the rest of it :) (Or maaaybe a physical copy if I talk my 'rents into it :D )

because you probably aren't even still reading these, i'll keep it short and sweet:
i was surprised! but in a GOOD way. i wasn't sure exactly what to expect, but… i kinda feel like i did with the release of Parrot Stories. i had a general idea of what to expect, but when i heard the whole thing i liked it more than i thought i would.
my favorite is The World is Mine. which is a surprise for me because i generally don't like slow songs. but that has such good lyrics, and i love the way you sing it. your singing ability has grown and i really like it!
wow. didn't i say something about short and sweet a minute ago?

  • Kathryn

Wow! I have to say I LOVE it. I've just recently found you so I haven't listened to all of Parrot Stories yet. I do feel that this album is better than (what I've heard of ) Parrot Stories.
I love your voice and for some reason every time I hear The World is Mine (I Don't Know Anything) I get this rush of emotion.. Is there a story behind it?

  • shayisnthere

I meant to comment as soon as I heard it but I forgot (stupid girl…)

It's fantastic! Honestly Alex, you can see how much work you put into it! I'm just upset that I have to wait for my physical copy! I want to be able to bring it places with me on my iPod now but I'm not going to buy it on iTunes and THEN get the physical CD (as much as a fan as I am, I'm not Bill Gates ;D) I've got to say, I still love “Georgia” as much as ever. Maybe it's because of the backstory being somewhat hilarious or maybe it's just because it's a fantastic song, but I love it!

Wish I had the songwriting chops that you do… and even if I do I may never know because I don't play an instrument so it all falls apart =( ahh well, you're fantastic! Keep impressing us (and yourself, I'm sure!)

My favorite songs are “Stay With Me”, “You and Me”, and “The World Is Mine (I Don't Know Anything)”, and “Not Just Yet”. Although I absolutely love the entire album <3

  • eff

I am LOVING heart on my sleeve!

  • Martha (:

I love it all. seriously, every song is amazing! are the lyrics are around anywhere..? especially love the world is mine (: x

  • http://twitter.com/brilliantastic Tui Kraal

I love the album :D my favourite track is definitely The World Is Mine. It's a beautiful song.
My favourite lyric has to be:

“They say time’s a healer but my watch can’t tell the time
The left hand’s stuck six months ago and I can’t find the right
    I don’t know anything…”

Nothing but brilliance that is. And I love the way it's a left hand and right hand, but clocks don't have a left and right. I didn't notice that at first, and when I did I just thought, omg, that is AWESOME!!

I think what I love most about your music is the feeling it has in it. It is music from the heart, more than anything else. Cause while I love listening to say, the Oceanic Six's album, and the lyrics and the music are great, and so professional sounding (not saying yours aren't :P), your songs have something different. They can make me laugh, cry, be immensely happy for no reason at all, or begin intense internal conversations with myself about life, the universe and everything.

So yeah, I love the album, I love love love the title track, keep making music, and know you are a great inspiration :D

  • Louise <3

I love it! I'm hoping dad will let me use his card to buy the physical cd. (He did his research and is now addicted to your video's too!) The only one I'm not sure about is Georgia. I absolutely LOVED the accoustic version of georgia, but this version it just seems like everything is on top of each other and a bit too much is happening. Other than that though, this is brilliant, and I definately love your lyrics, they're constantly my statuses on facebook, my favourite at the moment is Living on the Underground, I was just pleasantly suprised when it started to play. :) You should definately come to Australia and play, I know so many people who would kill to see you. :)

  • http://twitter.com/hellomadworld rafaellaishappy. ^^

my favourite songs are Georgia, The Time of Your Life, and The World Is mine, at least for now. I know I'll probably fall in love with other songs very quickly, but I guess I just wasn't expecting this… I think some of the songs may be too electronic and, for example, Heart On My Sleeve is maybe too different from what you used to do, but change is a good thing! :D I'm just not sure if I like all the songs.
Sometimes the background music is louder than your voice, which makes it harder to listen to you singing. But I think I have to listen to it again and get used to the differences. I loved Parrot Stories, and maybe I won't like this album as much as I liked it, but only time will tell. 'Till then, congratulations Alex, you're a great song writer and I can't wait to love this album. :D
    x

  • Miss Margaret

Also, I forgot to mention this, but after hearing “Living On The Underground” again, the sound of it (not the lyrics, but some of the actual notes) is kind of like “Supernova Girl” from the movie “Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century” I mean, just the beginning sounds similar to it.

  • http://elinious.wordpress.com/ Elinious

Alex, I'm a fan of your blog, videos and music, but I didn't have time to listen to the album until now. I didn't pre order the album because I was hoping that I could order your album and Charlie's at the same time, but it seems that we'll have to wait a little longer for Charlie's album so I ordered yours anyway yesterday.

The difference between this album and Parrot Stories is very obvious. When I first got Parrot Stories, I didn't like most of the songs in the beginning, but after a while I seriously fell completely in love with the album. However, with this album I instantly love most of the songs, except a few (not a fan of Dead and Gone to be honest). I've listened to TWIM (IDKA) the acoustic version about a thousand times now, and it just blows me away every time :)

I think the change from Parrot Stories to this is good. I really like the guitar/uke songs on Parrot Stories, but as of late I've not been listening to it as much. I think this album sounds somehow more grown up without losing touch of being young (and in love)… I don't know if that makes sense, but that's what it reminds me of.

Anyway, enough rambling. I'm looking forward to my package from DFTBA to arrive. I've been listening to the tracks on your website, but it's so much more convenient to have the music on a CD or in iTunes when I want to listen to it, than to visit your website :)

Congratulations Alex! You did a really good job on this album, and Tom is amazing :)

(Quick question: do you know anything about summer in the city 2010 and if so, are you going to be there?)

  • Alice D.

The World Is Mine (I Don't Know Anything) is ver different from Parrot Stories. And the change is great. I've been listening to this album for hours on end, and I already know The World Is Mine on piano. You can hear your emotion flow through the songs more than on Parrot Stories.
It would be nice to hear some guitar or ukulele when the songs were toned down a bit. But with the piano, it adds a different feeling.
If you get a playcount for all of the songs on your website, expect a lot more because I am flat broke.

  • shinky2301

'Stay with me' wouldn't download from itunes into my library, but all the other songs were fine. Anyone else have this problem/ know how to fix it?
    Help is much appreciated :)

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/3VMHNGMOYV4Y743FXBZZCAU4HQ HannahT

The opening to You and Me is so charming, I just smile and smile every time I listen to it! I'm very curious, what instruments are you using there? The whole song continues in the same wonderful, sweet, and skillfully sung way. It is very likely my favorite song on the album and I commend you for it.

The World Is Mine is amazing in a very different way. The piano is gorgeous and has the perfect, slightly melancholy, sound for the song. The lyrics are so simple and truthful, which I love. The melody flows brilliantly and I often end up singing it to myself, but it is by no means a recreation of the millions of love songs that came before it. It's original, it's beautiful, and I thank you for your contribution to the world.

Those two are my favorite songs but I love the whole album just as much, if not more, than I loved Parrot Stories. Great job, you are such a talented artist!! <3

  • Dann

i still like it, but i miss the oter style. and im slightly dissapointed. but i think thats becasue i conected so much with parrot stories

Alex, it's great! I love it, and I've told all of my friends about you and THEY LOVE YOU TOO! Ah! haha keep up the good work! <3

I really like it, I just think that it's too much of synthesizers and such. You have a great voice, it doesn't need to be covered up by all that. However, I'm still in love with the whole album. Great job.

ok, so short and sweet went out the window anyway, so i'm going to add: i love Georgia. not because i'm just naturally drawn to it. but because i kind of feel like a part of it in a way because i was one of the people who didn't want Georgia to leave! XD
i love that you turned that random happenstance into a song!
i still say TWIM is my favorite (especially the second verse), but i love all of them. and when i read the lyrics to “Heart on My Sleeve” when you shared them months ago, i was blushing. but i like the way it came out in the song!
ok, i'm just starting to feel really pretentious (“like your opinion matters. who are you?!”), so i'm gonna stop writing the judgy stuff now. :/
also, i've been listening to it all day today (just received it today) and i'm going to use one of the songs in my 30VTV today. (30 Vlogs Till VidCon). <3 oh, and btw, i'm coolhandjohnny on twitter. (aka the weirdo who yelled at you about Dr. Who. DON'T HATE ME!)

My Favourite Song is the World is Mine (I Don't Know Anything), IT SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!

  • Vuure

I really like most of the songs, especially living on the underground and the world is mine. There are a few songs however, where the music sounds like its trying to be harder than your voice. Like Georgia. It sounds like the music and your voice are doing totally different things and like the music isn't really made for this song…I don't really know how to explain it… But other than that I really like most of the songs and I'm definitly going to buy this album and your parrot stories album, because I think that your voice is made of pure gold :P

  • Ian

i'll be honest, i was slightly disappointed, but then again, i often change my opinion about music over time, so i'll probably love it eventually. I think the electronic parts in the songs were slightly overdone and i miss the acousticness of parrot stories. Not that I think that electronic music is bad, it's just that it doesn't suit your voice too well. Still, i do love the album, and my favourites are you and me, the world is mine, living on the underground, dead and gone and not just yet

I'll admit, I didn't like this album so much at first, however it has definitely grown on me (just like the best music always does). I'll definitely be ordering the physical copy once I get back from holiday. Thank you Alex for creating such awesome music

So I've now been listening to this album (and basically only this album) for a little under a week. And it's weird how first impressions aren't always lasting.

The first time I listened through the album the song that stood out to me the most was “Living On The Underground” I decided nearly immediately that it was my favourite. It's fast passed and a great dance track and it became my “getting ready for the day” song and I had it set to replay continuously on my ipod.

But now, after listening to the album dozens of times I've decided that “Dead And Gone” is my actual favourite. I'm not even sure how to describe why it's my favourite…there's just something…errr emotionally gripping about it. And yeah, that may sound kind of cheesy, but it's the best way I can put it. The song just affects me in a weird way and has the ability to alter my mood so completely. I actually argued with my sister about it because her opinion was that it's “the most forgettable song on the album, whenever it comes on I can never remember which one it is” which basically boggles my mind…but different strokes for different folks as they say.

Anyways, just thought I'd give my opinion now that I've had a thorough listen. Can't wait for the physical and the harrymoon t-shirt to come in the mail!!
