NERDY MUSIC YAY

Hello you filthy bastards! Two years ago, I uploaded a YouTube video to my channel called “Trock” in which I played a song called “An Awful Lot Of Running” and Charlie uploaded a video called “Blink”, simultaneously launching our Doctor Who band, Chameleon Circuit.

Two years have passed, so we thought we’d give you something new :)

Lyrics to my song “The Doctor Is Dying”:

It is returning through the dark
Doctor, you have met your mark
Your song is ending, sir, don’t cry
When you hear him knock four times

You’re going to regenerate
Some new man saunters away
No time for games, tonight we fight
For the fate of all mankind

I could do so much more

The time lords returning, the earth will be burning
The last white point star is a trap for the master
The doctor is dying
I don’t want to go

Wilfred will be by your side
You will always save his life
Hold on now, not long to wait
Till they bring back Gallifrey

I’ll sing you to your sleep

Just one more thing before you fall
You’ll be getting your reward
Back in time for those you know
Martha, Donna, Jack and Rose

Lyrics to Charlie’s song are available here :)

And yes, both of these songs will be on the new album. More details in time ^_^

And no, this doesn’t mean the end of Sons Of Admirals. We’re in lots of bands. Why can’t you handle this? :p

ALEX!! can you please tell me the correct location of this gig on saturday.. your blog says one place while the facebook event page says another.. thus leading to major confusion in my brain!! x)

  • Bonnie

@Gem, It's at the Old Distillery, 33-35 Commercial Road. The Old Distillery has loads of names, it's easy to get confused (:

this gave me chills. holy fuck.

  • http://twitter.com/Terrie93 Terrie Watts

Actually gave me chills! I've been waiting for new trock for so long :)

  • http://twitter.com/Stanage Ty Stanage

    Wow, what a trocktastic day.

Like I said about Charlie's, while I can't say I'm as familiar with Doctor Who as either of you, or, really, any of England, this song still was very catchy and sounded brilliant on the acoustic.

Hahaha, I like how when you stop strumming on the guitar you still strum your hand in the same motion to keep time.

As many others are bound to say, brilliant work, and I'm anxious to hear more from Chameleon Circuit and all other projects you're involved with. Maybe one of these days I'll “acquire” Doctor Who episodes (at least the newer ones) so I can begin to understand most of the references. Either way, though, you both do a good job in making enjoyable songs without all of the audience having to fully understand all of the lyrics' meanings.

    Trock on, sir.

    Wow. Basically.

repeat.repeat.repeat.repeat. all just a few months apart.

You started making videos on the internet. After looking at youtube and how to make money on the internet, the service of making videos made money because youtube paid you but you wanted more. To supplement that income you also needed a product…music.

To sell this product you needed a business. You turned yourself into a business. You created an image for yourself as the “popular nerd”. Your blog posts are proof read many times before you post them to ensure that the image of yourself that you want to portray is exactly right. Your videos are made and edited painstakingly for the same purpose. Teenagers who are nerds are your target market and buy into this image of nerds can be popular too, especially when you are backing it up with a community that they can be part of and you connect with the fans well. One of they ways you connect so well is to try and talk about mutual interests of Pokemon, Buffy, Dr. Who etc. Your other business moves have been smart such as forming a close relationship with the vlogbrothers and being signed to DFTBA. There is much more to analysing your moves to increase your popularity and money making potential but I don't really want to go into that now because it will just be long and people might skip over this post or see it as a rant.

Most of the moves you make are designed to create new fans who will buy your albums to take money out of their parents pockets and into yours. I don't even have a problem with this but sometimes it would be nice if you were just blatantly honest about it rather than ignoring the fact that one of the reasons that you release albums at a frequent rate is to line your pockets. And I think it's fair to say that you must be making a fair old sum from the calculations I have done and what I have seen you have been up to.

Lots of teenagers who are buying into your image get emotional. Just look at the number of times the word LOVE is in the comments or the number of people who want to marry Charlie but I don't get involved emotionally and see past that to the reality of what is going on.

Also, Charlie is trying doing the exact same thing with his image of the nice, loveable nerd. I believe that you are slightly more intelligent than Charlie so better at doing it than him but I still think he's doing it quite well. He's involved with Trock, SOA and has his own album coming out and T-shirts. ££££

Tom Milsom is trying to go for the weird intellectual but I see through that and don't buy it for a second. I don't think he is intelligent enough to get it right but I give him his dues. A* for trying.

Basically and in summary, one reality is being creative and having fun with the fans but this masks another reality that you don't acknowledge that is taking lots of money from the fans that you're trying to connect with. HEY YOU! JOIN THE NERIARMY! WE'LL HAVE LOTS OF NERDY FUN AND YOU'LL ONLY BE £200 POUNDS DOWN AT THE END OF THE YEAR BECAUSE OF IT. (ALSO I LOVE EVERY ONE OF YOUR CLICKS BECAUSE IT GETS ME THAT MUCH CLOSE TO TV APPEARANCES AND A RECORD DEAL) Is that going to be the title of your next album. Maybe it should be.

Give me your thoughts on this please Alex and everyone else. Cheers.

(Cue the jealousy comments. Trust me I'm perfectly happy in my own life and if you read my words carefully I think you might be able to see this has nothing to do with that. If its not clear please can I reassure people these comments don't come from any harsh place towards Alex. I have been watching his videos for a while and tell someone I know well that I believe in him and think he will go far. This post has to do with a reality that he seems to ignore.)

  • Martha

that was beautiful, and it wasn't even in the script!! it was just daivd tennant being amazing, and not wanting to go!

  • Lydia

So basically both of these songs are brilliant. And I think it's pretty awesome how Charlie included some of the background music from the 5th series. Really looking forward to a new Chameleon Circuit album! :D

And will the Sons of Admirals ever have a full album? I keep asking, but I never get an answer. I'll repeat myself in saying, I think the idea of the four of you having this band together is a top notch idea, but….. more music, please?

  • Sara

    Both songs were brilliant.
Although, in all fairness, Alex, I would have liked yours more if you wore a fez.
    Fezzes are cool.
    (Or a bowtie <3)

  • http://twitter.com/SlytherclawHP Sarah

This is great, Alex! I've only just started watching Doctor Who because of you and Charlie, and I'm glad I can now start to understand what these Trock songs are about XD
Also, have you ever thought of doing some Wizard Rock? That would be pretty cool, and I already love “Durmstrang Boy” =)

  • M :)

but that's obviously not the reason alex, charlie, tom or anyone for that matter is doing what they do. And even if i were true, what would it matter? and why do you care? if you don't wanna buy albums or t-shirts or anything you don't have to, which is something they all make very clear in their videos, also you can listen to all of their music on their websites for free. Which means they pay for recording and the production of all their music (which im sure costs alot) and could potentially get no money in return. What they do makes thousands of people happy, so if fans want to show their appreciation by buying music and merchandise, that doesn't mean they have been manipulated by these 'loveable nerds' it means they are genuienly appreciative and have a lot of love and respect for them.

and now i feel foolish for even giving this a reply.

well im going to skip the never ending gushing and just say
    I AM SO FUCKING EXCITED!

  • http://twitter.com/Stanage Ty Stanage

    1) You say he started making money first through YouTube, and then “to supplement that income [he] also needed a product…music.” I highly doubt that a) Alex wasn't interested in sharing his music before he became a YouTube partner, b) Alex's music is just a “supplement” to his YouTube success…I think Alex is doing a very smart thing: he has an audience, why not make music and see if people will buy it? And they do, and c) That Alex began selling his music simply because “he wanted more” money. Honestly, there are a lot EASIER ways that are less RISK-TAKING than producing music and offering it up for people to chew on and either spit out or take it willingly.

    2) You say you aren't angry or that your comments don't come from a harsh place. See how I used CAPITAL LETTERS? That was me, coming from a HARSH place and TYPING IN ALL CAPS TO LET YOU KNOW. You seem to have a lot of that in your post…just sayin'

    3) And about money and music, they don't call it the “music industry” just for shits and giggles, you know.

    4) You say people get emotional and use the word LOVE a lot when talking about Alex, Charlie, whatever. It's like they're acting like…teenage girls? Oh, yeah, that's right, the majority of Alex's audience IS made up of teenage girls. Of COURSE they're going to say love this, love that, THEY'RE GIRLS! They say the same about shoes, Edward Cullen, and that cute little dog over there. I really don't think this is a problem whatsoever, but thanks for pointing out his target demographic…sadly, you didn't have a graph to go with it.

    5) You say Alex turned himself “into a business” and created an image of a “popular nerd.”
How in the hell can you say that? He didn't “create an image.” He didn't MAKE all of those people subscribe to him…he didn't MAKE an audience, he didn't create shit besides his videos and his music. Because people liked his music, his videos, of course an audience was born…this doesn't mean he “created them.” It simply means he's creating enjoyable content, like any musician/actor.

As far as his “image” goes, I think you can look at the “image” any way you want, and take away what you will. However, why is it so hard to believe that someone somewhat famous on the internet can be nerdy? Come now, just because he (as well as I) enjoy nerdy things such as Pokemon (Red ftw), Harry Potter, and Buffy, doesn't mean that he simply TRIES to like them to keep up with his IMAGE. No, my friend, he, just like you, me, and teenage girls, tend to have these things called interests. You see, these interests usually generate your “image” at the get-go. You can like sports, weightlifting, and moving heavy shit, and BAM, you're a jock. Or, you can say that the world's out to get you, read Catcher In The Rye twenty times, and mope and BAM, you're emo.

Dude, you've got to realize that we all have images, it's just that because Alex is well-known on the internet, his “image” is shared with a large amount of people, who share his interests and have the same “images.” There's nothing wrong with that whatsoever.

    6) You target Charlie and Tom, try to fit them into an “image,” and then ridicule them both and say whether they're “doing as well at it” as Alex. I don't really understand your definition of “intelligence,” but from what you seem to portray it as here, you seem to think that “intelligence” is the ability to get money from a lot of people, which, by the way, is really dumb. Musicians are among the most intelligent people I know–I'm studying to become a physician, I've been called many things between intelligent and smart, especially by music majors–but what they don't understand is that writing your own music and then playing that music on a variety of instruments is more challenging than any university course or situation I will ever find myself in. Thus, I believe that these three guys are leaps and bounds more intelligent than I am, and I have absolutely no shame in admitting that.

    7) You say, in summary, that Alex has two realities: one for creativity and his “image,” and another for simply making money from the first reality.

Yet, isn't that the dual-mentality we must all fight with? Must we not all fight between doing something that is creative, something we love, and making enough money to put food on the table and genuinely enjoy life? I think that's a part of living, that we must constantly fight between the unfortunate existence of poverty/wealth, and the remarkable existence of brilliantly creative ideas that may or may not come to light and be created based on weather or not someone has enough money.

In some places, man, I knew where you were coming from. But you have to be able to get your head out of the sand and stop tearing down what Alex and others are trying to create, using their audience as a medium, and begin to accept that sometimes, just sometimes, people can be famous and not be douchebags. I think every person you mentioned in your post falls in this group, and I challenge you to stop wanting Alex's life, and begin to start making one that you can be proud of, even if you don't have 200,000+ others watching you do it. That is what gives someone true character.

Cheers. Oh, and your grammar needs some work. I couldn't understand you sometimes. :/

  • SB

I think it is absolutely obvious that one of the reasons that alex is doing what he is doing is to make money and earn a living.

In response to your second point of why would it matter and why do you care?, if you read my post properly I said “I don't even have a problem with his”. I don't have a problem with with his business or the way he runs it, I actually respect him for doing it so well. You have majorly missed the point my post was trying to make. Nowhere did I write anything negative about him making money. Again, I respect the fact he has done so well.

Re-read what I wrote please because your reply is not based on what I wrote. I just explained whats behind his well thought out business and how it's a reality that he doesn't like mentioning. One of the reasons is because the majority of his fans fail to think about it so it doesn't need to be explained. He would gain nothing from explaining it because it would bore you and you seem to not understand it that well. Another is that knowledge is power and all that jazz.

This was a great song, I think! :) And you crack me up: “Tiny audience of smurfs.” ;D

  • SB

Where to start. This could get very boring. Basically people need to stop getting emotional and trying to defend poor old Alex and look at the reality of what is going on and what I said rather than trying to stick up for him all the time. Guys, it's perfectly acceptable to be a fan of something but still take a step back and analyse the way they are working and come to positive and negative conclusions.

“I highly doubt that a) Alex wasn't interested in sharing his music before he became a YouTube partner”

So you don't know for sure. Neither do I so I didn't actually mention anything to do with this.

“c) That Alex began selling his music simply because “he wanted more” money.”

I'm pretty sure you sell things to make money.

“Honestly, there are a lot EASIER ways that are less RISK-TAKING than producing music and offering it up for people to chew on and either spit out or take it willingly.”

Yes, there are easier ways to make money than try and sell music. Alex has actually done it very well so he was taking very few risks. He built an attentive online audience (as you said) and released music to see them to see their reaction. (as you said). This means that there was little risk because if they didn't like his songs he wouldn't lose much except maybe a few subscribers but I always believed he was charismatic enough to get more. And if they did like it he gained lots. Life is about risks anyway, everything is a test that you have to overcome.

You misinterpreted the caps thing. It was meant to be in reference to his homepage where it says in caps THE WORLD IS MINE (I DONT KNOW ANYTHING YET). Sorry if it wasn't clear. Looking at it now I guess it's not 100% clear.

“3) And about money and music, they don't call it the “music industry” just for shits and giggles, you know.”

Yes. Most of my post was trying to explain the business.

    “You point number 4″.

I was trying to say how teenage girls become emotionally involved so can sometimes overlook the reality behind the artist. I don't think it's a problem either. You agree with me again.

    “Your point 5 and 6″

Hmmm….. Basically he does control what he puts out in his blog, videos and twitter and it does all add up in people's minds to create an image of what you think he is. He, like all people, are complex but the little bits he shows to you and me online to create an image of himself that we wants to portray to his audience.

“Yet, isn't that the dual-mentality we must all fight with?” “that we must constantly fight between the unfortunate existence of poverty/wealth, and the remarkable existence of brilliantly creative ideas that may or may not come to light and be created based on weather or not someone has enough money.”

I think you were getting a bit carried away at the end of your post here. I think you missed the point. Alex always comments about his creative side but doesn't really mention his business or how his business works. I'm just saying he ignores those points and in my reply to M :) I explain why that might be.

Trust me, I'm was definitely not trying to tear Alex down. I will repeat that I respect what he has done and how well he is doing. I also don't think he is a douchebag. Your last paragraph is just basically NOTHING to do with that I posted. I even said I'm not jealous and was perfectly happy in my own life. You should really read what I wrote again.

I think you need to read what I wrote and try and take time to understand it because I think you misunderstood my words.

I don't think there was a need for your grammar point “weather or not” you think yours is better than mine. (cue the person saying “that's actually a spelling mistake and not anything to do with grammar”)

  • Rawr

I'm so excited for this album, you have no idea :D

  • Jen

is there a story behid the ring you are always wearing?

  • Dylan =]

I think the problem that people might have with your post is that you make Alex, Charlie, and Tom out to be money-obsessed guys who are faking their image. They do make music, but if you watch their videos, you can see that it is something that they truly love. Just take a look at Alex's live performance at vidcon and you can see how passionate he is about his music.

I totally get that you're trying to point out that Alex is a business man, but to go as far as saying that “[he's] taking lots of money from the fans that [he's] trying to connect with” is a bit crazy. Alex's fans like his music and they choose to buy his albums and then he gets money to make more music. His fans buy his music to support him because they want to hear more. Personally, I think he deserves it, considering all the hard work he puts into it. It's the same with authors. They do make a living by selling their books, but at the end of the day, they write because they love it. Alex writes music because he loves it. He's in multiple bands because he loves it.

I think that it's silly to say that Alex has made this “lovable-nerd” character. You don't even know him personally. (I don't either, so what am I to say, I'm just another fangirl I guess.) But why can't he be a nerd who's loved by the masses? Why do you just assume that Alex, Charlie, and Tom are putting on acts?

Alex, I love your music, so I'm going to keep buying your albums. Your lyrics are fun and inspiring and I like your singing voice! I'm a huge Doctor Who fan, so thanks for making Trock =] Your new song is great and so full of emotions and so is Charlie's. Keep on living your life the way you want to live it and DFTBA!

    <3

ps. I was wondering if Liam and Ginger Chris were going to be contributing to this album as well? I do hope so!

  • ChelseaIRL

brilliant! you are just becoming a better and better songwriter! amazing progression from Nerimania. :D

i CAN'T WAIT till this comes out! i want to play it over and over! :D

also, i love the way Charlie used the music from the show as a backbone for his melody! so awesome!

  • Laura

    Hi SB

I'm sorry but I completely fail to see your point here. You say that there are two realities here, one being creative and have fun with the fans and the other one is taking lots of money from them.
Isn't the point of being a musician making records for the fans. As a listener you can decide whether or not you buy it. Plus Cameleon circuit isn't the most commercial type of music out there, yes they make a bit of money from it. Good for them, that might entice them to get on with it and make that second album we fans have been waiting for.
You make it sound like it's all business, but there is no mention of talent anywhere in your coment. If the music was rubbish nobody would buy the cd's he is making.

Would you like to see a videoblog entirely dedicated to Alex explaining his personal finances? I don't think i would enjoy that all that much if I'm honest.
Also your whole argument is full of assumtions, how would you know why he first started making youtube videos. Did you see him read the how to make money online for dummies book? How often he proof reads blogposts, these are all assumtions.

I really dislike the way you put phrases like 'jokey lifestyle' and 'edited painstakingly' ín there just to put a negative stamp on your argument. You insult his mates by saying the are not as intelligent and piss over the fans. Even if i were a teenage, pokemon, dr who loving nerdy girl that is emotionally involved and writes LOVE at everything all these boys do. What would be the problem with that? If that makes me happy and feel involved in a community, how would that be bad?

If you think that your coment doesn't come from a harsh you are just kidding yourself.

  • faitharonimaceroni

I have a feeling that Alex hugs would be bony and Charlie hugs would be awkward.
    Hmm….

  • http://twitter.com/Stanage Ty Stanage

Right, so I don't think it's worth anyone responding to you if we are all are going to misunderstand your words. That being said, I think you've found one sure-fire way to win any argument: make a long post about someone in an obviously harsh tone (of course, I'm misunderstanding your words, so I guess you're trying to be chummy or something obscure no one else will understand) and then claim that no one sees your novel realization and that we are all misunderstanding your brilliant conclusions.

So yes, you win, good sir. You've shown you are a complex thinker who sees what others don't in order to give someone's fans an “insight” into a previously unknown “truth”. I guess I should, from now on, instead of trying to make you have an open mind, I'll just reply with, “Wow, insightful thought there. I'll never be able to look at the situation in the same way.”

Have a good life, Hipster Joe.

Okay, okay, ready for a joke? Are you? Okay.

How many hipsters does it take to screw in a light bulb?

It's some obscure number, you wouldn't understand.

  • Mortadelle

Do I understand you're basically saying that everything they've done, they have done with a single purpose in mind (along the lines “let's make money… now what do I do?”) – and this, from the very start? What's next? You're going to say that Alex had x number of girlfriends just so he could write new love songs? You're going to say that the Vlogbrothers have been manipulated into finding Alex (and friends) worthy of a close relationship? It's all only a plan? It's all manipulation in order to get money?

So what's your point, really? You generously want to point out he makes/wants to make money and that he takes care of his image? Don't we all do?

wait… you think we're all dumb and stupid for not knowing all that already???????

Sorry to disappoint you, but we all know he makes a living out of it all. He has a talent for vlogging, and a true talent for music. And we love it all.

I'll tell you who's taking a LOT of care of her image, has never written a damn song or a single music line and whose marketing resembles harassment – and she makes a shitload of money. Céline Dion.

I'd much rather give my money to Alex, Charlie, Tom, the TROK guys and SOA. Much, much rather, much.

I consciouly want them to live off it, so I can get more of it. Nothing's free in this world – except the livestreams on the websites of our favourite bunch of boys. How ironic.

  • purplegirl117

(Before I begin- I read your comment few times as well as its responses, but I'm not sure if I completely understand. My apologies in advance if I misunderstood your intent.)

From what I've gathered, you made this comment because you wanted to point out the fact that Alex is making money from his YouTube and music career, because apparently this is something that his fans don't realize. I don't think Alex masks the fact that he's making money off of what he's doing- I'm well aware that the $12 dollars I spent on his album are going to him. It's not like he told everyone his album would be free then secretly took money from everyone who got it; that would just be absurd. I'm glad to spend money for his music and t-shirts, because he creates good content. And it's no secret that when his YouTube videos have ads next to them, he gets money. No one seems to have a problem with this either. His videos are funny and entertaining, and if he makes a few bucks from it, then good for him.

Now, whether or not his so-called “popular nerd” image is something fake (as it seems like you implied) created as a business plan to “connect with the fans” is something seperate entirely. It seems unlikely (but what do I know?) that he would make up a completely fake persona purely to make more money. It's also unlikely that him making friends with the vlogbrothers was *just* a business plan as well (if it was, then he's a pretty bad friend). Have you considered that maybe he actually just likes Pokemon and Buffy and Doctor Who, and he talks about nerdy things just because he likes to? Basically, it's possible that those things weren't just business moves- they're just Alex being himself. Of course, this whole paragraph is just speculation- you'd have to talk to Alex personally to find out whether or not I (as well as you, for that matter) am correct.

So, to sum up- I think your comment is kind of pointless. It's supposedly to point out that Alex is keeping a big secret about him making money, but that's simply not true. And the rest of your comment was just as much your own speculation of the previous paragraph of mine was.

I'm not trying to defend Alex as some of the other replies were- that would be pointless since you claim to have nothing against him at all. I'm just trying to fully understand what you were saying, so I'd love to get a response.

(Oh, and on the matter of getting emotionally involved- I don't see anything wrong with the use of the word “love”; I love most of Alex's music. It's just the truth. And as far as the people saying they want to marry Charlie- Charlie is an attractive teenage male who is also quite musically talented, fangirls are to be expected.)

  • Stacy

Super excited!! We just discovered you and Charlie and Chameleon Circuit about a month ago and of course we had to go to itunes and get the album and already new songs. I'm kind of glad we didn't know you a few years ago because I bet the wait has been excrutiating for your long time fans. Well, we (my kids and I) are new fans and love everything y'all are doing.

  • Emilie

A wonderfully amazing song, but with a sad touch reminding me that Tennant is gone :(

  • http://www.youtube.com/kimkuhn kimkuhn

not sure if you've answered this before, but how do you feel about people using your songs in their youtube videos (and linking and crediting of course)?

lovely song and video by the way. it's always a treat to see new videos from you in my subscriptions and you never disappoint :)

  • gillian

BANKSY T-SHIRT!!!!! I WANT THAT! For this Trockiversary i decided that im going to make a Doctor Who cake. OH YEAH!!! CAKE! And btw, amazing song! It makes me so happy Chameleon Circuit is coming back, it's helping with the withdrawl symptoms. :D I can't wait to hear what songs Liam and Chris have come up with. So excited! XD

  • KeiUKtv

Hey could you give us the basic chords for it, I'd love to try and do a cover after i et back off my hols.

  • http://twitter.com/JBdaWonderLlama JB

I had no idea it was two years on, and a couple of weeks ago I wrote a Trock song called Gallifrey, I'll upload it when my producer can be bothered to do the drums :P

  • http://twitter.com/JBdaWonderLlama JB

oh and do this at the gig on saturday please :)

  • http://twitter.com/JBdaWonderLlama JB

    it's not the Neriarmy… it's the Nermie Army… :P

but I do agree with you with one point I do think Tom is trying too hard to be weird.

But every artist wants people to buy their music, it's just life.

  • Eli (Ellie)

Okay so your song is SO SAD and yet also FLIPPING AWESOME.

And I thought I should point out,

THERE ARE NO LYRICS POSTED AT THE LINK YOU GAVE US FOR CHARLIE'S SONG (Y-Y)

  • Eli (Ellie)

Okay so idk where you are from, but Netflix has all of the new show of Doctor Who (except the newest season bc it's not out yet on DVD) available on instant play. So if you have Netflix instant play available where you are, you can watch them all on there. Just don't forget, there are specials in between every season that aren't always included on Netflix. Check out the DW wikipedia page for a chronology of all episodes and specials.

  • DeniseSaysHiAlex

And yet another great song ^^

  • http://www.vorutania.com Speilbilde

Friggin' awesome. I can't wait for the new album! Happy news :D

  • Mellen

Very good. Very, very good. Pretty much all I can think to say. Just… really good. :)

  • Drew

Awesome cant wait for the new album !!!

  • Teddie Duke

    Excellent song!
This is actually my first time listening to a trock song (my friend sent me a link to this website) . I'm a COMPLETE newbie to this and Doctor Who, just watched my first episodes (which included the latest season finale) last night with my sisters-they also love it. So I was just asking to any of you which trock song of any artist you like the best (just interested) and which Doctor Who episodes you enjoyed the most :)
    Thanks!!

  • http://twitter.com/Stanage Ty Stanage

Thank you very much…I'm getting Netflix once I move into my new apartment this Friday. I'm from the States, so I dunno if Netflix will let me watch them, but I'll definitely check it out once I've got it all hooked up! :)

  • http://twitter.com/itiselizabeth Elizabeth Creaghan

I'm so happy to hear both of these songs. :)

  • Steph

I've said this before as a comment on Charlie's video, and I'll say it again.
These are the two best trock songs I have EVER HEARD.
You can really see a drastic improvement on the last ones you guys did, and they were already really flipping good :D
Alex, yours gave me goosebumps, and Charlie's made me smile like heck.
These songs have actually made my day :D YAY for nerdy enthusiasm!

  • Meggymoo

i love the way u confuse me by being solo artists and being in various different bands as well! :D

  • dreamforever91

wow, I love this song :)

I actually first found out about you and Charlie because of that Trock video, I was just browsing through Youtube and saw that video, I instantley clicked on it, and didn't think anything of this “Trock” thing. I then found Charlie's video in the sidebar, started to investigate his videos, and because he mentioned you so much I went onto your account, and BOOM!! Instant Alex fan. Did you actually delete the Trock video? I can't find it anywhere :(

I will be in London this weekend, but sadly I don't believe that my mum will let me go to your gig, I mentioned the words “gig” and “pay to get in” and “doctor who” and she didn't seem so impressed…….I will try and get her to change her mind :)

I can't waitto get your album, Charlie's album and the new CC album :D

ps. Alex, who's your favourite companion apart from Amy? :)

  • Jadey

Wow I cant believe its been two years since I looked at my dr.who song book…Right…Jade is going to dig it out from the box its stored in with all my who memories :D x Thanks Alex x

  • lulu

omg ur amazing i luv doctor who XD and a big fan of u and charlie but i never seen u live cant u do something like a world tour and come here plz :)

  • http://www.almostdailyexploits.com Thiefree

You can be in as many bands as you like, poppet. You're young; get out there, play the field! But the time will come when you find a band you just can't live without, and then you'll be ready to commit, and have lots of little songlings running around.

    Or something.

  • CoolioChloio

I LOVE YOUUU! keep doing what youre doing and dont worry about the haters doubting you and saying youre a loser by the way you choose to live :D

  • Thegemmamclean

yeah i know but why does it have two names?!

  • Elise is so cool like

    YAY!!!!!

  • ChelseaIRL

don't feel bad. i totally embrace my nerifangirldom. i know more about this guy than i care to admit. (even to myself.) but that's just kind of a side effect when you've been watching someone's vlogs for 3 years.

  • ChelseaIRL

the best part of commenting on these blogs isn't the blogs themselves. it's seeing your friends' comments as you scroll down. :)

also, the arguments over how legit Alex Day is. how much cred he does or doesn't deserve. and whether or not he cares about his fans. it's hilarious! XD

i've never asked him any questions of that nature, but all i know is, when i met him he was INSANELY nice, signed all of my CD's, and just talked like any other normal person. take from that what you will. XD

  • Teddie Duke

Haha, cool. Makes me more pissed at myself that I hadn't found out about Alex and his music sooner (along with Doctor Who).

  • Teddie Duke

AND the whole genre of Trock

  • http://elinious.wordpress.com/ Elinious

The Doctor is Dying is a really pretty song :) I am sooo glad Chameleon Circuit has returned/is returning. Makes me a very happy nerd.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the Old Distillery. I am in London until Friday (arrived last Thursday for SitC and a visit to London (vacation) and I can't stay longer because that Saturday I have a super secret surprise party for my friend who's going to Korea for 6 months (the 'good part').

SitC was sooo much fun. I saw you walking around and wanted to say hi, but you were constantly bombarded by girls (and guys, but mostly girls) which was pretty annoying so I didn't. It was my first gathering and had plenty of fun with the people I met there, but I do understand why you don't enjoy gatherings as much anymore as you used to. It was just crazy… You (and Ed! And Tom! etc) were standing right behind me when Greg Holden played but I was enjoying the show too much to bother you, and you looked like you were too :)

The gig was great btw. I know you mentioned on your blog that you drummed a verse or a chorus for a song on TWIM (IDKA), but I didn't know your drum skills were that good!

Even though I didn't talk to you (or Charlie, Myles, any of the other 'big youtubers' in general), it was great seeing you in 3D! Going to a gathering has certainely changed my YouTube experience. It makes it a bit more 'real', if you know what I mean. All the people I've met <3 Although the people here at my hostel are all lovely I'm a bit lonely now after 3 days of having people around me constantly who are so alike in interests and hobbies.

Anyway, sorry to ramble, again. I tend to do that. I hope to see you at more gigs/gatherings soon! SitC was totally worth the travel all the way from Holland.

  • ChelseaIRL

it matters not WHEN you discover nerimon, Dr Who and Trock, just as long as you get here eventually! ^_^

  • Teddieduke

    Yes indeed :)
I'm actually excited I finally have something worthwhile to listen to.

  • Lydia

You act as though his fans are stupid. Whether he's being fake or not, we actually like the music so we *want* to buy it! He's not trying to rip us off or anything. Just selling a product. And what's wrong with them selling stuff? It's not like we have no choice and we have to buy them or anything.

  • Mortadelle

and you know what's neat? It's that everything Nerimonsters know, they know it right from the horse's mouth – not from some gossip magazines. What I hated most when I was a teen was reading about my favourite artist and then finding out that the info I'd just gathered was untrue. I completely stopped reading magazines and music news because of that. But with the vlog and the blog and everything, a new generation of fandom has risen. It's a very interesting experience (and it's interesting to see how Alex handles what he'll tell vs what he keeps private). I am very curious to see how things develop vlogwise and blogwise while Alex's carreer soars.

  • ChelseaIRL

wow! i never really thought about it from that standpoint. but yeah, it's gonna be really interesting to see the changes in blog and vlog content. (there already have been many.) and also, Alex tends to have full disclosure. like, he says i won't be writing personal stuff, or i hope to sell a lot to make my money back, etc. i wonder if that will continue.
also, i love the term “Nerimonsters”! :D

  • Myemailhere

amazing how your songs are always better than charlie's.

  • jetlovesmusic

How is he trying too hard to be weird? I'm like that naturally. I actually found the amazing music of Tom, Alex, Edd, and Charlie through constant reference to Tom from my friend Bee, because she is obsessed with Tom and thinks that I'm a female version of him, apparently. XD
And no, I don't really think Alex is trying to attract an audience of nerds, because a real nerd would not say that they loved Alex/Alex's music.
A true nerd would say “Congratulations on another amazing work of music! Are you off a bit in the beginning, or is it intended to be a bit diminished? I can't tell, although I laugh at the thought of you being off key and not fixing it before posting it up. Did you know that the scene where Tennant says he doesn't want to go was filmed over four times before they finally got it right? The lyrics are beautiful, a bit repetitive, and where did the comment about Smurfs come from? In general a very good song though.”

    Therefore-

Reading throughout your message and the responses, I would say that your main point is that Alex is talks openly about creating videos and music, but shies away from such transparency when it comes down to the business end of things. You then go on to ‘explain’ how his business is run based on your own assumptions. This was entirely unnecessary. Alex has been open about both his methods of obtaining an audience and about the money he makes from his creative content.

“I personally know I definitely don’t make videos I don’t love, and I always go on the merits of the idea in itself before any other thought crosses my mind, so if anyone thought that I treated YouTube like a business, they’d be wrong.” Alex, blog entry, ‘Sireeus yoochoob bizniss’.

I choose to believe his word regarding his own motivations above your opinion.

Alex talks at length in his blog and occasionally in his videos about both the creative and commercial aspects of what he does. If you read the blog post entitled ‘the marketing strategist’ he explains how the single for sons of admirals was promoted. Throughout the recording and production of his second album he was forthcoming with detail into the business side – talking about how much more he spent on his second album compared to the first, discussing whether the creative merits of an entire page with sailor moon on it in the album sleeve was worth the extra money it would cost, discussing the percentage that he, his label and others receive per album ect. I believe that his emphasis on the creative aspect is because he finds ideas and making things more engaging.

  • http://twitter.com/Cosmic_Creepers Emma

For some reason I assumed the new trock song would be about an episode from the last series, it being about the previous Dr feels oddly atiquated. How quickly I have forgotten, fickle as I am.

Regardless, I loved it. It has a great rhythm to it (I don't know music-y terms, so I hope this means what I want it to mean).

Charlie's is pretty lovable too. Its sounds familiar, is it based around some incidental music perhaps, not sure?

  • Jess

The biggest question that popped up after reading your post was why are you on here – Alex's website – moaning about how fake he is when you also say you love his videos and “believe in him”?

Look – Alex is not the first person to sell music. What's the difference between any artist selling their albums and Alex selling his albums? (I might as well not even bother bringing up the fact that you can listen to all his music for free on the website – how many artists allow you to do that? – because you'll clearly ignore it.)

Every band/artist has an “image,” and the majority of the time, that image is simply their personality, character traits that they've always had – not a fake personality that they thought up as a result of becoming famous. Basically, you're saying Alex went, “Oh, I know, I'll pretend to like Doctor Who and Pokemon so that people I can't really relate to will like me!” It doesn't work like that.

And you also seem to be saying that anyone who sells their music doesn't really love their music; they just want to make money. Sorry, but I can't see anyone making music just because they got a few thousand views on YouTube and decided some of their subscribers might buy the album because they liked the videos.

People who enjoy an artist's music usually buy the artist's album. That's just the way it is.

  • Catherine

Love the new trock song, brilliant lyrics.

  • Ellieeee :)

    <3 it!

  • http://twitter.com/DoctorLando Daniel Wiedinmyer

Alex, you have to upload the Everything is Ending song, I must hear it.

  • mihiella

make Charlie to do his lyrics too because yours are weary helpful :D
and as we are speaking of doctor who… have you played Doctor Who – The Adventure Games?
I have and i'm weary pleased with it x)

  • http://twitter.com/AliciaPCV Alicia C.Villamañán

This is awesome, you're getting better and better
By the way, love the Bansky t-shirt

  • Mortadelle

Yeah, well, you know how he loves pet names… I love this one too. A little more than “filthy bastards” – then again, I never thought I'd smile and laugh at being called a “filthy bastard”. Only Alex can pull that one off. :D

  • Komal

    Alex…. I don't get your song :(

  • Meggymoo

yaaaay im da 100th comment! anyway love da new twilight vid very funny!! one of ur best!! what do u think of the maroon 5 song misery??? me and my mate are arguing bout it!! do u like it or hate it??????

  • gallifreygirl

I live in Kentucky and my neighbor's got all of the Ninth and Tenth Doctors on Netflix, specials included! :)

  • Beatrice

Yay! The songs are awesome. You are both really talented :)
I just have to tell you that I had a dream the other day where we were like best friends and we were singing and playing the guitar, but then I woke up and realised it wasn't for real. That made me a bit sad, because you were really funny and awesome in my dream. ^^

  • Guro ; )

Could you put up the chords? I'd like to play it for myself too : )

  • Julia Merryman13

So Alex. I am a huge fan of you and Charlie, and i wanted to say props to you both for being really quite amazing. I mean you are in a couple of bands, plus solo stuff. AMAZING! So yeh, thats basically it. Keep up the good work.

  • http://i35.tinypic.com/29wvcxz.jpg Jessica

Hah, Ice Father Nation. I wish I could go, just to snap a pic of the sign! But alas, I live in Toronto.

btw, click my name and see a picture I made just for the occasion of the two year anniversary. TROCK ON!

  • http://twitter.com/Belladory Belladory Lint

Uh, yeah. Two of the best trock songs yet.

  • TragicCaseOfMyReality

you mean that money that I gladly and of my own volition payed for Alex's fantastic music, which I was lucky enough to listen on this site for absolutely FREE until I actually received my cd, actually goes to HIM? I am astounded. completely shocked.

I'm not going to go into how Alex, Charlie, and Tom are all very talented AND intelligent and how absurd it would be that they would be pretending to like Doctor Who and Pokemon or any of their various interets. (you know, because those box sets and games and merchandise are cheap and are solely excellent tools to fool an audience into loving them.) that they are just made of awesome. because so many other people already have, and they've done it well. I'd much rather just going to go listen to The World is Mine (I don't know anything). I just LOVE it so much.

  • Gráinne

I watched both the videos and in the middle of the second one just as he goes “my mind is being blown” m firefox decided to shut down for no reason. Aparently it's mind was blown too.

  • Eléonore

I like this song, really ! It's great, and you were really cute at the end, when the girls ( i guess ? ) applauded , you looked kind of embarrassed in a cute way.
Anyway, i love your voice and enjoy every single video you upload on youtube, you're funny and seem really smart.
Oh and the “Maybe you should just stick to working on Midnight Sun.” was absolutely hilarious.

  • SimoneCecilie

I love this song – it fits the episodes “mood” – it's both sad and brilliant. Can't stop listening to it (:

  • TragicCaseofMyReality

you should watch Doctor Who :) It's fun going back and listening to Trock songs that made you confused before and getting them one hundred percent :) like with “Awful lot of Running to Do”, I was watching the Doctor's Daughter and it's said in the episode and I was like “YAY. now I get where it comes from” :)

  • sherri

    lots of bands is good

  • Daa

    chords?

  • http://twitter.com/KeannaCasey Keanna Casey

You sir, are an insufferable, over-analytical twat. You have just insulted the intelligence of Alex, Tom and Charlie – and I might as well add these aforementioned “emotional teenagers”, who you seem to think do not have the mental capacity to do anything but follow people blindly, in a cult-like fashion.
And there is no point replying to me yet, because you obviously are just going to repeat your flimsy, opaque point as if no one can understand your argument. Talk to me when you get the decency to at least try to comprehend what people are saying in their responses, instead of assuming that everything they say is the wrongly said garbling of an eleven year old.
