Together tonight

I have a song in my head right now – I came up with the melody for it just before I got on the train to London (wrap party for Chartjackers tonight), and wrote most of the lyrics on the train, and I’ve recorded it on to my phone, but it’s really frustrating not having access to a guitar until I get home tonight. (Tom said that the sensation of developing a new song is not unlike vomiting, where you have to just get the idea out there and shape it so that you can move on with your life. He’s approached strangers at train stations before so that he can borrow their pen and paper to write down musical notations.)

Anyway, I’ve been working on lyrics that can be sung at a show and would create a great moment – the lyrics from this song include “so here we are, together tonight, having the time of our lives”. I’m not ashamed to say I stole the melody from the chorus of a song by Miley Cyrus called “Goodbye”. God, Breakout’s a good album.

    You said it took you 3 years to write your first album, and you plan not to take as much time on the second one. While your second one should still have as much quality I agree it should not take as much time. I once heard the quote ‘you can spend years on your first album, but only months on your second’.

    I hate talking about what kind of music I like because it feels like people are constantly judging me. Because, I mean, they are. Not necessarily in a bad way, but if I’m like “oh, hey kids, I totally love Hawk Nelson” people are all “JUUUUUDGE” and I’m all “D:”

    I love that album, it’s one of the many that I listen to on my way into and back from work every day. Parrot Storis kept me sain on the madning traffic tonight on my way home. 2 hours took me to get home!!!

    lol, it an alight album (breakout) I listened to the whole album multiple times last (the year before last?) summer when it first came out, the only problem with that was that I was on a road/camping trip with my brother and dad, they hated it at first but then eventually my brother started to sing along, lol.

    hearing that makes me miss writing lyrics! just having that feeling of needing to get something out. it’s an amazing feeling. that and performing. there is NOTHING like performing your music for people on stage. the connection is AMAZING! but you already know that. :)
    *sigh* i miss it.

    but anyway, yeah. good to hear you’re writing stuff and that you’re inspired. inspiration is the hardest part!

    Hey Alex, would you mind telling us what some of your favorite bands are? I know you love Green Day but that’s all I’ve heard you mention. I’m aways looking for new music and I have a feeling you’ve got great taste in bands.

    I love your music by the way! I’m making myself wait to buy Parrot Stories until after Christmas since I’m broke, but it’s very hard not to just use the iTunes card i’ve bought for a friend to buy it :P

    Alex, there is so much I want to ask you now I can comment. I have questions which I would love for you to answer, but please only do so if you have time to kill.

    - Why did you and Kristina break up? You seemed so good together, before, all of a sudden, you just weren’t. Obviously you don’t have to go into this/answer as it is absolutely your private business, but your relationship was “public”, so it piqued my interest (I use the term “public” in a very loose sense!).

    - How did you get involved in the Chartjackers projects? What’s happening with Chartjackers now? Is that it: the end? Were Hat Trick disappointed that you didn’t reach Number One, or were they impressed and pleased with the efforts and achievements you made? Will you be involved in any more television work? What’s happened to Amanda and the other guy who sang the single?

    alex you should do a track by track video or blog for ur album. Talking about the lyrics and the music itself. You could talk about the inspiration for the lyrics and the music as in where you came up with them and how. Also if there was a specific person or people that made you write a song. its always fascinating to learn about the meaning behind songs it would be cool to see it dude. ps. “holding on” is my fave song
