Yesterday marked my first experience playing my songs in front of a live audience. Much fun <3
The event was to celebrate the release of Tom’s new album Painfully Mainstream. I supported him by playing Candy Floss, Hearts, Don’t Look Back, Holding On and No Sacrifice. It went really well ^_^ We had microphone issues when I started, so I just unplugged the uke and sung Candy Floss completely acoustically. There were a few girls (and my friend Lewis) up front who wanted to hear No More, which was sweet, so I’ll definitely put that in the next set I do in the UK. But after the New York gig this Saturday I won’t be gigging for a while – Tom, Ed and I are gonna focus on rehearsing as a full band with a bassist and drummer, and then rock the UK in the spring :)
There was a point during Don’t Look Back where I closed my eyes and my voice started breaking and being all emotional, and when I looked at the crowd again, they looked really concerned xD I do tend to break down a bit whenever I sing that song.
Oh, and I made £110, cos I sold lots of CDs :) So that pays for my hostel in New York.
Thank you to everyone who was there, especially those who were singing along <3
(Ed and Tom have written their own blogs about the event here and here.)

I wish I could have been there. Stupid distance. You will probably never play a gig in Denmark but if you do… I will be sure to be there :D!!
Me and a friend of mine went last night (got there about 10 minutes late unfortunately) and we couldn’t find you! Really sorry we missed you, but imagine two more girls were singing along that night. Hopefully we’ll catch the next gig you do! <3
Xx
Well done on your first gig! Ive done a few before, but not my own songs. I’d love to see you on tour, and I probably will try and come in the future :)
I hopefully want to get an album out lol, but that is aiming waaaaay to high at the moment.
Good luck with everything,
Josh

I wish I could have been in London but I’ve watched through your set on youtube and it was fab.
:D
Aw that sounds so cute :) and how everyone was worried for you <3
Its time like this that make me wish the US was so big… Oh well, maybe I’ll get to see you eventually.
You need to come to Washington D.C. now, pleaseeee. :)
Aww, poor Alex, I would’ve been concerned too.
WOO last night = best gig I’ve been to, and I’ve been to a lot. Came all the way from Norwich :) got completely soaked. Got lost, but managed to get to the Gig on time. It was definitely worth it 100%… oh yeah Alex, thank you so much for the video to my GF :) I wish I could go to NY as well… :’( Oh well next gig you do In the UK. I’m there. xxx
I can’t wait to see you perform in NYC next week Alex. If last night was incredibly awesome, I can’t imagine how incredible this Saturday will be! Will you guys be selling your CDs at the gig? I can’t get them on ITUNES for some messed up reason.
when you tour in spring will you be coming to birmingham??
Sounds awesome <3. I suppose there's really no way you could play a gig in Mexico
(unless you become hugely famous or something =P) but just so you know I'd definitely be there :)
Just wondering, obviously if it’s very personal you don’t have to say, but who is ‘Don’t look back’ about? I wondered before and have now decided to ask.
Also, I know you have loads of ‘COME HERE’ types but don’t how about the North :D
Of England that is, not the world. If a Northern nerdfighter gathering goes ahead, or just as a gig?
And finally, you should gig your WHOLE album, not just some songs! And maybe some other songs too, like ‘Pokemon What Happened to you?’
Love it.
…also another thing, completely unrelated, and I would have put it on the other comment only you can’t delete or edit.
After reading this blog I was in an Alex Day-y mood so went on my youtube favorited videos only to see that some of the ones by you have been deleted!! I mean, what happened to Blackstar man? That video is properly class, despite the hat!
Others too, though some I can guess reasons for deletion…but still!
At least I can still watch classics like the BBC questionnaire… :)
i have to say, no more is probably my favourite song by you. i remember when you first posted it on youtube and i spazzed out and tried to find a way to put it on my ipod.
Last night was so amazing! Had such a great time. I was right at the front :D I’m definitely coming to your next London gig. :) I’ve listened to your album non-stop since I got it.
You are playing in New York the same day that I am going to be there, but I am completely heartbroken that I cannot see you play. :’( I am leaving an hour before you go on.
Yeah… I am a fangirl aren’t I…
You need an alternative name for No More cos if we shout for that it sounds like we don’t like you… “NO MORE!!!” xD Twas awesome Alex. I really love ‘hearts’. Specially loved you singing Lex’s bit xP
If i was there i would have been singing along :)
i wish i could be ther in New York but sadly I live in Las Vegas….. You should definatlely do some gigs here Alex, In Las Vegas I mean :)
Love ya
1) The gig was amazing. You, Tom and Ed have an AMAZING dynamic when performing together – your energy was contagious.
2) You already know how my opinions on your overall stage presence, so I won’t indulge your ego any further here. :p
3) All the ads on here keep telling me how I can cut down the fat on my stomach. I suddenly feel exceedingly self-conscious. MAKE THEM STOOOOOP.
Alex Day is win. and also if you do ever play a gig in Denmark i know you will have at least two people there.. YAY !
Wow it sounds like so much fun, I wish I could have gone! But my sister and I will definitely be at the one in NY! I hope you play ‘No More’ and ‘Georgia’. Those are our favorite songs :D
Thank God for YouTube, at least I can watch the gig at home in Holland now :)
I wish I could have been there.
I really want to visit London again and it wouldn’t hurt to do that in a weekend when you play another gig. So for the internationals amongst us, once you’re doing gigs in London/England again, could you let us know some time in advance? Combining a visit to London with an Alex Day gig would be awesome :)
Maybe you could do a newsletter type thing? You don’t have to send out weekly or monthly newletters, but as a ‘I am playing a gig then and there’ alert type thing. (Since you don’t have twitter.)
OMG! I wish I live in London or something to be there, stupid Sydney :(
Then I can also buy a physical CD instead of buying the songs off iTunes.
But well done Alex for your first expensive playing live! :)
Hi Alex. How tall are you?
For some reason I felt really sad for you when you said your voice broke during don’t look back. You seem like too beautiful a person to feel sad about the past, or to feel lonely. Know we all love you. Or even if they don’t, I do.
You need to come to St. Louis. Or at least Chicago ):
You’re really coming to New York this Saturday?
I saw that, squealed like a pig giving birth, then tried to run to the phone to call my friend and promptly tripped and fell. It was an overall memorable experience.
So this Saturday, NY? I’m gonna grab a train ticket and head on up. I really hope I can make it.
Oh, hello!
I totally found you via the youtube “This person kicks ass” feature, even though youtube generally lies to me. However, I was pleasantly surprised when you did manage to kick ass.
Glad to see your website is visitable again, though. I tried and apparently it was down for server overload. Whenever I post on my website tomorrow, I’ll add you to my blogroll.
Toodles!

That’s an expensive hostel.
It's about me, pretty much. And Lex, sort of.
Haha, I wasn't gonna play my whole album at Tom's launch party :p
About 5' 8″, 5' 9″ maybe.
That's the price for all five nights, though.
Hahaha! Good point xD
Yeah, Lex didn't wanna sing with me cos she was with her boyfriend and it woulda made him feel weird. I get that.
And now you have to bring your white toushy to Melbourne!!!
WHERE are you playing in New York on Saturday? I will absolutely be there, even if it means stealing a metro card from friends and traveling Uptown.
What time do you go on in NYC? I would love to come see you but I cannot get down there until 8. =(
That's only like, an inch taller than me :o
I don't know if that makes me tall, or you short.
Although, I guess 5'9″ is hardly short.
Well done at the gig Alex! It was amazing! Thanks for signing my poster along with your other awesome band mates!
Just wanted to ask you: You mentioned in your blog, please correct me if i'm wrong, about your new song 'Living on the Underground', what is it about essentially? Because I've actually written a book about a guy who lives in the tunnels of the London Underground so that obviously caught my eye. Let me know.
Well done again and good luck in New York! oh and have fun :D !
x
It was adorable when you went a bit shakey – I was one of the girls pestering you…Hope it didn't seem too creepy :) x
<3
Holy Excrement!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I am so excited. I am going to the NY gig thingy. Are you gonna have copies of parrot stories ?? my mum wont buy it for me. *sad face*
Aww thanks for coming! :D And yeah, it's about scary busy times on the Tube :)
Awesome! Can't wait to hear it! ;) x
Obviously, but you said you would play no More, but you should just play the whole thing :)
I am the best at merch, just sayin' :D
