3rd song lyrics yo

From the song we recorded today, sexual lyrics ahoy:

Looks like I’ve fallen in love again
Kiss me, save me, be my closest friend
We’ve waited all year to have tonight
Don’t hold back and I will make you mine

I will make you mine
I will make you mine

It started with a kiss and ended with I’ll miss you, yes I do
So tell me what you want and I will wear that mask for you
We say we’re being truthful but I can’t get near you when I do
I just can’t shake the image of my hands exploring you

Lie down, let me in
I will give you everything
I wear my heart on my sleeve
Touch me and I won’t let you go
Make me what you need
You know what you want with me
I wear my heart on my sleeve
I wear my heart on my sleeve

For now you’re far away but close enough to miss you, and I do
For all the girls in all the world, I’ve got my eye on you
I’m ready for the day when I will get over you, I will do
But first just let me give myself entirely to you

And I’m not gonna lose you
I will fly around the world
If I have to show you
What you mean to me

Looks like I’ve fallen in love again

I will make you mine

    Nice...now I want to have sex...right now...urghs.
  • Catherine
Wow. So. I just got watery eyed.
I feel excessively lame, but I just really connected with those lyrics.
There's a boy, you see. And I think I might be in love with him.
    Anyway.
    Thanks, I guess.
I just ... felt I had to tell you? Hah. I dunno.
  • can't wait to hear this song. dance music, you say? hmm...

and i love it: "yeah, i'm obviously gonna get over you. i mean, let's face it, your not THAT great. but for now let's have fun!" XD

    awesome. :)
  • dees
Obviously its about Lily. Not kristina
  • "I will make you mine" is creepy, but I think "Touch me and I won’t let you go" is worse. To be honest, I prefer the quirkier Alex-y songs, but I wont hate it yet as I'm yet to hear the finished song :) To a melody I'm sure it will be really good xD

Speaking of Edward Cullen, I personally think rob pattinson looks a hell of a lot like Alex on the poster for "Remember Me"? Yes? No? XD
  • sofyaa112
:O I just googled that and oh wow yes he does. Weird.
  • Emliy
Hah. I love the people being like "Yeah, these lyrics freak me out, don't use them, blah blah". I suggest you immediately go listen to "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. Creepiness didn't seem to bother the general public on that one, eh? And that one's like the creepiest song OF ALL TIME. So I think a little bit of I will make you mine will be ok, Alex, even if it is (as Tom said) "a bit rapey". (Another good example of popular creepy songs is Clay Aiken's "Invisible", but I just couldn't bring myself to compare you to Clay Aiken.)
  • sofyaa112
YESS oh goodness, it upsets me so much when people don't see it xD seriously, if someone dedicated that song to me I'd get a restraining order. It's the scariest song of all time, and apparently written either from the point of view of a person who has no idea what most women want or for a woman who's got issues.
  • Oh my god, 'Every Breath You Take'. The lyrics to that song creep me out so much. You're right about the general public not being bothered by it; it's written from the point of view of a heartbroken, obsessive stalker, yet they play that shit at WEDDINGS. Just ... what?
  • Emily
No kidding - they play it at weddings and it was like the number one single in both the US and UK for multiple weeks, multiple magazines have named it one of the 100 best songs of all time (thank you wikipedia). But it honestly makes my skin crawl. Compared to that, this one's like a sweet sonnet. :)

I like the lyrics a lot! and this song it not THAT sexual. I mean, obviously it is a bit, but not crudely so. I think sofyaa112 got it right, a song about sex doesn't necessarily have to be bad. Take Jason Mraz's song "Butterfly". It is SO obviously sexual even that I'm guessing even a monkey could tell, but it is still an amazing song to listen and dance to. Basically, I think the song will sound great!
  • Jen
Whenever anyone mentions dirty lyrics I think of that line from Im Yours- "You do done done me in your bed and I felt it, I tried to eat cheese but you so hot that it/I melted":D
  • Elemander
Haha, it's actually 'Well you done done me and you bet I felt it, I tried to be chill but your so hot that I melted'
I love that you thought it was about cheese, though. It would make it even more awesome :)
  • JamesPeterBailey
It reminds me of What You Do, I think it might be the sexual lyrics :)
  • Guest
I agree with Mandy. As much as I enjoyed the rest of the lyrics (even though I was somewhat uncomfortable reading them. not to say they weren't good, just, not what I'm used to from you) the line "I will make you mine" just, scares me, almost.
    Aghh.
Perhaps it won't seem quite as...scary, once I hear how it actually sounds in the song.
For whatever reason, it makes me think of you, with all the lights off and a single beam of light on your face, whispering.
    "I will make you mine"
    -shudder-
  • It's a bit Edward Cullen, yeah :p
  • Audrey
So, by the looks of it.... I take it that you're coming to Boulder, Colorado when you go on tour.....
  • smilenose
Beautiful! Terribly personal, I almost feel like I was overhearing a conversation I shouldn't have, which i like. cant wait to hear the music! Mind if i ask what kind of tempo you picked?
  • Nina
I read these lyrics over three times.
First time thought: That IS really sexual.
Second time thought: D'aww, that's kind of cute!
Third time thought: Holy crap... RAAAPE.

That being said, I actually really like it.
  • I can picture myself singing this song out loud one day and having everyone around me being uncomfortable with "lie down, let me in" lol.
But I'm excited to hear this with the music =D
  • Mandy
For the most part, I like it. I'm bothered not by the sexual lyrics (which aren't as bad as I thought they would be) but by the line "I will make you mine". I don't know, every time I hear something along those lines, I feel really uncomfortable. Relationships for me aren't about the selfish act of owning anyone but about having a companion and being there for each other, and the almost imperative quality of the word 'make' combined with the connotations of ownership of 'mine' sound a bit jarring, especially next to the rest of the song and given how it's reiterated.

Love the rest of it though - especially "So tell me what you want and I will wear that mask for you / We say we’re being truthful but I can’t get near you when I do". Can't wait to hear it set to music.
  • hexachordal
Well you see, that's what I said. I felt it was a bit rapey. I'm not sure what the outcome of the conversation was, but it basically ended with it still being in the song :D
  • The outcome of the conversation was me saying "we did it in Candy Floss, we'll do it again."

(Candy Floss: "she was gonna go, but I said NO! I DON'T THINK SO!")

The song is from an arrogant perspective; from someone who thinks he knows what women want, can make himself whatever they need, and can get whoever he likes. It's from the self-assured 'World Is Mine' half of the album's voice, not the more vulnerable 'I Don't Know Anything' side (which comes later in more vulnerable points like Stay With Me, as well as the title track).
  • Anon
Great Lyrics indeed. But wow, I felt uncomfortable reading it. XD But very very good. Can't wait for the song!
  • And now to hear the finished product [=
    I'm excited.
  • John
    Wow. Steamy.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but they sound like very explicit references to your long-distance relationship with Kristina.
  • I don't see that at all ... but I guess if you interpret them with that in mind, you'll find that. I'm not with Kristina anymore, she's very happy with Luke, so I forgive you for being wrong :)
  • John
Oh, I'm sorry! I thought they may have been written during that relationship. I was basing that opinion on the lines about flying around the world...
  • Henry
    They broke up.

    A while ago.

    About four months.
  • I know I don't know you, but somehow I keep looking for Alex Day in these lyrics. Can't find the quirkyness that normally signatures your songs. Not that it's not good! I don't know if this makes any sense!?!
  • This is a straightforward 'let's try and write a song in the style of Lady Gaga' song, structurally and lyrically. Normal lyrical service resumes in the next song :)
  • Bri :D
Oh my gawd! ALEX!!!! <3 I want to be that girl lol
  • Shocked, shocked.: The term "Rock and Roll" as a reference to sex is not only older than you. It's even older than me. First appeared on record in 1922, according to Nick Tosches, Where Dead Voices Gather. The record was "My Man Rocks Me With One Steady Roll" by Trixie Smith. The word "roll" as a metaphor for sex goes back to the middle ages.

Here's a bit of Bessie Smith's "Empty Bed Blues" (1928)

Bought me a coffee grinder that's the best one I could find
Bought me a coffee grinder that's the best one I could find
Oh he could grind my coffee, cause he had a brand new grind
He's a deep sea diver with a stroke that can't go wrong
He's a deep sea diver with a stroke that can't go wrong
He can stay at the bottom and his wind holds out so long

    Carry on, Alex.
  • alice<3
I love these lyrics! I'm really looking forward to the album xD
Lie down, let me in! Lol.

    <3 x
  • sofyaa112
I love it! It's rare to find a song that has slightly sexual lyrics and isn't "dirty"; you almost forget that music about sex can still be good music.
  • I was a big Maroon 5 fan :D
  • Those are great lyrics!!!! Very honest, I love it!
But, If I was Tom, I'd be uncomfortable as well. XD
    <3 ^_^
  • Naomi (nimalim)
is it weird that i find that somewhat cute?

They're great lyrics, i love your truthfulness with words (if that even makes sence?)
    xx
